Fault Codes That Point to PSD604 Failure
On ACS800 drives, the following fault codes are the primary indicators of a gate driver board fault. If you see these and the IGBT modules themselves test healthy, the PSD604 is the next component to swap:
- F-0022 (SC — Short Circuit): Desaturation detection on the PSD604 has triggered. Before condemning the board, verify the IGBT module is not actually shorted. If IGBTs are intact, the desaturation circuit on the PSD604 has failed.
- F-0001 (Overcurrent): Spurious overcurrent trips with no load change often indicate asymmetric gate drive — one phase leg switching slower than others due to a degraded gate drive channel.
- A-0006 (DC Bus Overvoltage during decel): If braking chopper gate signals are not reaching the chopper IGBT due to a PSD604 fiber-optic receiver fault, the bus cannot discharge — resulting in overvoltage trips.

Step-by-Step Replacement Procedure
- Isolate and discharge: Open main isolator, lock out/tag out. Wait minimum 5 minutes for DC bus capacitors to discharge below 50 VDC. Verify with a calibrated meter — do not rely on the drive’s display.
