Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Before you pull the card: The EC6682 does not use a rotary address switch — slot position within the MPS rack determines its logical address. Before removal, document the current slot number and note the Alert/Danger setpoint values from the front-panel display or your DCS historian. These are not stored in the module itself; they live in the rack configuration. Losing them means a full recommission from scratch.
Common failure signatures that point to EC6682:
- OK relay drops out with no process change — Internal watchdog fault. Power-cycle the module first. If OK relay does not re-energize within 10 seconds, the module is failed.
- 4–20 mA output frozen at 4 mA or 20 mA — Input signal loss (check probe gap and driver supply) or internal DAC failure. Swap the probe driver first; if the output remains pegged, the EC6682 is the culprit.
- Spurious Danger trips with no shaft movement — Verify probe gap is within the driver’s linear range (typically −10 VDC ±20%). If gap is correct, check for ground loops on the signal cable shield. If noise is ruled out, the module’s comparator circuit is drifting — replace.

- Re-energize and verify the OK relay energizes within 10 seconds. Confirm the 4–20 mA output reads the expected value for the current probe gap.
- Re-enter Alert and Danger setpoints. Perform a static calibration check by adjusting probe gap to the Alert threshold and confirming relay response.
- Remove the inhibit at the DCS level and return the channel to service.
