Most Common Failure Modes on R700CPU
- AL.16 – Encoder Error: Before condemning the drive, swap the encoder cable first. Optical fiber degradation on SSCNET III/H is the #1 false positive. If the alarm clears with a new cable, the amplifier is fine.
- AL.32 – Overcurrent: Check motor winding resistance phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground before installing the replacement. A shorted motor will kill a new drive within seconds of power-up.
- AL.50 – Overload: Usually a mechanical binding issue, not a drive fault. Decouple the load and jog the axis in MR Configurator2 before declaring the amplifier faulty.
- AL.E3 – Main Circuit Undervoltage: Measure DC bus voltage at the drive terminals. If the bus is collapsing under load, the issue is upstream — check the power supply and inrush limiter, not the amplifier.
- No SSCNET Communication (axis grayed out in GX Works3): Verify optical cable seating at both ends. Dust on the SFP port is enough to drop the link. Clean with IPA and a lint-free swab before replacing hardware.
