Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Fault 1 — Gap voltage out of range
Nominal output at 1.0 mm gap is –10 VDC. If your Proximitor reads outside –2 to –18 VDC at rest, disconnect the extension cable at the driver and measure the probe oscillator frequency with a frequency counter. A healthy 3300 XL 8 mm probe runs at approximately 1.0 MHz. Deviation greater than 5% confirms a failed probe coil — replace the probe, not just the cable.
Fault 2 — Intermittent spikes or elevated noise floor
Ninety percent of intermittent faults trace to the coaxial connector junction between probe cable and extension cable, not the probe coil itself. Inspect for fretting corrosion, especially in high-vibration bearing housings. Clean with isopropyl alcohol, re-torque to 1.1 N·m. If noise persists, swap the extension cable first — it is the lowest-cost component in the measurement chain.
Replacement configuration checklist:
- Confirm probe cable length is 0.66 m (option code 66). Mixing cable lengths within a matched system invalidates the factory calibration curve.
- Confirm extension cable is 5.0 m (option code 05). A common ordering error is substituting a 9.0 m cable (option code 09), which shifts sensitivity by up to 3%.
- Set initial gap to 1.0 mm (40 mil) using a non-ferrous feeler gauge before energizing the Proximitor. This centers the output at –10 VDC and prevents a false trip during startup.
- If the 3500 monitor has transducer check enabled, perform a static gap sweep from 0.25 mm to 2.54 mm and verify output tracks at 7.87 V/mm ±0.5%. Deviation indicates a mismatched driver or a probe from a different calibration batch.
- For API 670 installations: log the new probe serial number, installation date, and gap voltage in the machinery protection system record. Auditors require this documentation.
Target material mismatch warning:
This system is factory-calibrated for AISI 4140 steel. On non-ferrous alloys such as Inconel 718 or 316 SS, sensitivity error can exceed 20%. Do not assume the standard calibration curve applies. Contact us for material-specific calibration data or a field calibration fixture.
Note — Proximitor not included:
Part number 330101-00-66-20-02-05 covers the probe and extension cable only. The 3300 XL Proximitor driver (e.g., 330180-91-00) is a separate line item. We stock the full 3300 XL driver range. Contact us to configure a matched probe-plus-driver kit.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The 3300 XL 8 mm proximity transducer was built for environments that destroy lesser sensors. The probe body is machined from 316 stainless steel with a PEEK-tipped nose — chemically inert to hydrocarbon condensates, lube oil mist, and process gases found in compressor and turbine bearing housings. The IP67-rated body withstands direct wash-down and temporary immersion without seal degradation.
Vibration immunity is not a marketing claim. The probe assembly is qualified to 20 g sinusoidal vibration across 10–2,000 Hz — the same spectrum generated by the machinery it monitors. The reverse-polarity keyed coaxial connector resists loosening under continuous vibration without thread-locking compounds that complicate future maintenance.
Thermal performance is equally uncompromising. The probe body is rated to +177 °C, covering bearing housing temperatures of high-pressure steam turbines and hot-section gas turbines without additional thermal standoffs. The extension cable handles conduit temperatures to +121 °C. For installations exceeding these limits, high-temperature cable variants are available.
Long-term drift is the silent killer of vibration monitoring accuracy. Eddy-current technology has no moving parts, no wear surfaces, and no aging dielectric. The measurement chain remains stable across multi-year continuous operation. Plants running 3300 XL systems on critical machinery routinely achieve 4-year calibration intervals without exceeding API 670 accuracy tolerances.
Global Express Logistics
Stock is held at our Xiamen warehouse, positioned for rapid export to all major industrial regions. Orders confirmed with payment before 14:00 CST ship same business day. Orders confirmed after cutoff ship the following morning. We do not batch shipments — each order is processed individually to eliminate queue delays.
DHL Express and FedEx International Priority are our primary carriers for time-critical shipments. Typical transit times: Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia) 1–2 business days; Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait) 2–3 business days; Europe and the Americas 3–5 business days depending on destination customs clearance speed.
Export documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, Certificate of Conformance, and HS code 9031.80 export declaration — is transmitted to the carrier electronically at time of booking. This eliminates the most common cause of customs delay: incomplete paperwork. For customers in countries requiring an import license for measurement instruments, we provide advance copies of all documents before the shipment departs.
The 330101-00-66-20-02-05 ships in anti-static foam insert with moisture-barrier bag and rigid outer carton compliant with IEC 60068-2 transport shock and vibration requirements. The probe tip is protected by a machined plastic cap. The extension cable is coiled to a minimum bend radius of 50 mm and secured to prevent connector stress in transit.
Tracking numbers are sent via email within 2 hours of dispatch. For urgent shipments, our logistics team provides proactive updates at each major transit hub. If a shipment is held at customs, we engage immediately — we maintain broker relationships in Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, and Houston for rapid intervention.
