Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Fault 1 — Gap voltage out of range
Nominal output at 1.0 mm gap is –10 VDC. If your Proximitor reads outside –2 to –18 VDC at rest, disconnect the extension cable at the driver and measure the probe oscillator frequency with a frequency counter. A healthy 3300 XL 8 mm probe runs at approximately 1.0 MHz. Deviation greater than 5% confirms a failed probe coil — replace the probe, not just the cable.

Fault 2 — Intermittent spikes or elevated noise floor
Ninety percent of intermittent faults trace to the coaxial connector junction between probe cable and extension cable, not the probe coil itself. Inspect for fretting corrosion, especially in high-vibration bearing housings. Clean with isopropyl alcohol, re-torque to 1.1 N·m. Target material mismatch warning:
This system is factory-calibrated for AISI 4140 steel. On non-ferrous alloys such as Inconel 718 or 316 SS, sensitivity error can exceed 20%. Do not assume the standard calibration curve applies. Contact us for material-specific calibration data or a field calibration fixture.
