Product Overview

330101-00-77-20-02-05 — Stop the Clock on Your Downtime. Ship Today.

Every hour a turbine or compressor sits idle costs real money — production losses, penalty clauses, idle crews. The Bently Nevada 330101-00-77-20-02-05 8mm eddy-current proximity transducer is one of the most failure-critical components in any rotating machinery protection system. When it goes down, the entire 3300 XL monitoring loop goes blind. We stock it. We ship it fast. That’s the only thing that matters right now.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

After handling hundreds of 3300 XL field failures, these are the patterns that show up again and again.

Fault: High Vibration / Spurious Trip
Nine times out of ten this is not a real machine event — it is a degraded probe tip or a cracked armored cable at the conduit entry point. Before pulling the machine down, check the gap voltage at the Proximitor output. Nominal gap for the 330101 at 1.0 mm air gap should read approximately –10.4 VDC. If you are seeing drift beyond ±0.5 V with the shaft stationary, the probe is the culprit.

Fault: Not OK (NOK) / OK LED Off on Proximitor
This almost always means the probe-to-driver system is open circuit or the gap is out of linear range. Check the extension cable connector at both ends — the TNC/BNC crimp is the first failure point in high-vibration environments. If continuity checks out, measure driver output: if it is pegged at –24 V or 0 V, the Proximitor itself has failed, not the probe.

Replacement Procedure:

  • Step 1 — Confirm system bypass: Notify the control room. Bypass the channel in the 3500 rack before disconnecting anything. Do not rely on the machine being offline — the rack may still be in trip-capable state.
  • Step 2 — Record the existing gap voltage: Before removal, note the Proximitor output voltage. This gives you a baseline for the new probe gap setting.
  • Step 3 — Match the replacement system: The 330101-00-77-20-02-05 must be replaced with an identical suffix match. Do not substitute a 3300 Standard probe into a 3300 XL Proximitor — the calibration curves are incompatible and you will get systematic measurement error without any fault indication.
  • Step 4 — Set the gap: Target gap voltage is –10.4 VDC ± 0.5 V at the Proximitor output, corresponding to approximately 1.0 mm physical gap. Use a non-magnetic feeler gauge. Tighten the locknut to the torque spec in the BN installation manual (typically 20–25 Nm for 8mm probes).
  • Step 5 — Verify OK status: Restore the channel in the rack. Confirm OK LED illuminates and gap voltage is stable. Run a slow-roll check if the machine can be barred over — vibration should read below 5 µm pk-pk at slow roll.
  • Step 6 — Document: Log the new probe serial number, installation date, and gap voltage in your CMMS. The 3300 XL probe has no onboard memory — traceability is entirely manual.

Critical Note on IS Certification: The -02-05 suffix denotes an Intrinsically Safe version. If your installation is in a Zone 1 / Division 1 hazardous area, ensure the IS barrier in the safe area is rated for the 3300 XL system. Using a non-IS Proximitor in an IS-certified installation is a compliance violation, not just a technical issue.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 330101-00-77-20-02-05 was not designed for a clean lab. It was designed for the inside of a gas turbine enclosure — where ambient temperatures swing from sub-zero startups to +177°C continuous operation at the probe tip, where vibration levels on the probe body itself can exceed 50 g, and where condensation, oil mist, and process gas are facts of life.

The armored integral cable construction eliminates the single biggest failure mode of field-wireable probes: connector corrosion at the probe body. The cable armor provides mechanical protection against abrasion and crush loads in tight conduit runs. The probe tip is machined from a non-magnetic stainless alloy that resists chemical attack common in petrochemical and offshore environments.

Bently Nevada matched-system calibration means the probe, extension cable, and Proximitor driver are characterized together as a unit. A mismatched system can introduce a 3–5% full-scale error that looks like a real process deviation and triggers unnecessary shutdowns. In a plant running 24/7, that is a six-figure problem from a component that costs a fraction of that.

The ATEX and FM certifications on the -02 variant require the complete system — probe, extension, and driver — to be installed as a certified assembly. Substituting any single component breaks the certification. This is why sourcing the exact part number matters, not just something that looks similar.
