Common fault signatures that point to a failed T8451C:

• Trusted diagnostics reporting “DO Channel Fault” or “Output Voter Mismatch” on a specific slot — cross-check against the chassis slot map in your Trusted Workbench project.
• Field device (solenoid valve, shutdown relay) failing to energize despite a commanded ON state from the controller — rule out field wiring first, then suspect the output driver stage on the module.
• Intermittent spurious trips on a single output group — often caused by a degraded solid-state output switch on one of the three TMR lanes, causing the 2-of-3 voter to oscillate.
• Module LED showing amber or red on the front-face status indicator while adjacent slots remain green — this is a hard fault, not a configuration issue.

Pre-replacement checklist (do this before you pull the module):

• Confirm the fault is module-side, not marshalling-panel-side. Disconnect the field connector and check if the fault clears — if it does, the problem is downstream wiring, not the T8451C.
• Note the hardware revision suffix on the existing module label (T8451, T8451A, T8451B, T8451C). The T8451C is the latest revision and is backward-compatible with earlier chassis generations in most configurations, but verify against your system’s hardware revision matrix before swapping.
• Check your Trusted Workbench project for any slot-specific configuration tied to this module — output forcing states, proof test schedules, or bypass flags that need to be cleared before the new module initializes.

Replacement procedure (hot-swap, live chassis):

• Notify the control room: the affected slot will drop to 1-of-3 voter coverage during the swap window. Confirm with your SIS engineer that this is within your plant’s risk tolerance before proceeding.
• Inhibit the affected output channels in Trusted Workbench to prevent spurious field commands during module extraction.
• Disconnect the field wiring connector from the module front face. Label it — the T8451C uses a keyed connector, but don’t rely on that alone in a busy marshalling cabinet.
• Slide the module out of the chassis slot. The Trusted chassis uses a guided rail system — no tools required, but apply steady even pressure to avoid bending backplane pins.
• Insert the replacement T8451C. The module will self-initialize against the chassis configuration within 30–60 seconds. Watch the front-face LED: green steady = healthy, amber flashing = initializing, red = fault (check Workbench diagnostics).
• Reconnect the field wiring connector. Remove output inhibits. Verify channel-by-channel output states in Workbench match expected field device states.
• Log the replacement in your SIS maintenance record. Update the proof test schedule if the swap resets the module’s diagnostic interval counter.
