Troubleshooting and Replacement Tips

These are the failure modes and swap pitfalls that actually bite engineers on-site:

Common Failure Indicators on the 2700 / 2700-2:

  • FAULT LED solid red on one leg: Single-leg processor failure. System continues in 2oo2 mode — you have a window to replace, but do not delay. A second leg fault will force a safe-state shutdown.
  • TriStation 1131 reports MCM Communication Lost: Usually a failed backplane connector or corrupted firmware. Reseat first; if fault persists after power cycle, the MCM itself is the culprit.
  • Intermittent Leg Mismatch alarms (Event Code 0x1A or 0x1B): Memory parity errors on one leg. Early-stage MCM degradation — schedule replacement before it escalates to a hard fault.
  • All three FAULT LEDs flashing simultaneously: Firmware version mismatch after a partial upgrade. Do not attempt a hot-swap until firmware is confirmed consistent across all three legs.
  • Spurious output trips with no process cause: Cross-leg voting disagreement. Pull the TriStation diagnostic log — if the disagreement is consistently on the same leg, that leg’s processor is failing.

Replacement Procedure — Field Checklist:

  1. Confirm the replacement 2700 / 2700-2 firmware version matches your running system baseline. Mismatched firmware between legs will trigger a system fault immediately on insertion.
  2. In TriStation 1131, navigate to System > Controller Status and verify the system is in TMR mode (not degraded 2oo2). If already in 2oo2, the swap is still possible but must be executed faster — you have no fault tolerance margin.

  6. After swap, run a full TriStation diagnostic cycle and verify no residual fault codes remain in the event log. Clear the log only after engineering sign-off.
  7. There are no DIP switches or address jumpers on the 2700 / 2700-2 — the MCM auto-configures its slot address from the chassis backplane. No manual addressing required.
