Product Overview

330130-040-03-05 In Stock — Every Hour of Downtime Costs More Than This Cable

Your proximity monitoring chain is down. The Proximitor® is reading noise, the DCS is throwing a “Not OK” alarm, and the turbine is locked out. Nine times out of ten, the extension cable is the first component to fail — and it’s also the fastest to fix, if you have the right part on hand. The Bently Nevada 330130-040-03-05 is a 4-metre, factory-terminated coaxial extension cable for the 3300 XL Proximitor® system. We stock it in Xiamen. It ships today.

In a refinery or power plant running continuous operations, a single unplanned shutdown can cost anywhere from USD 50,000 to USD 500,000 per day depending on the process. The cable you need costs a fraction of that. The only variable is how fast you can get it to site. That’s where we come in.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Symptom: Proximitor® “Not OK” LED lit, gap voltage out of range (not –10 VDC ±0.5 V at nominal gap)

Before condemning the Proximitor® sensor or the probe itself, isolate the extension cable. Disconnect the extension cable at both ends and measure DC resistance end-to-end on the center conductor and shield separately. Any reading above 2 Ω on a 4 m cable indicates a broken conductor — replace the cable immediately. A shield-to-center short (reading near 0 Ω) means the cable jacket has been crushed or the connector has been over-torqued.

Symptom: Intermittent vibration signal, erratic Keyphasor® readings

Intermittent faults are almost always mechanical — a loose MIL-spec connector at the Proximitor® input or at the probe junction box. Wiggle the cable while watching the raw gap voltage on the monitor. If the voltage shifts more than ±0.2 V with cable movement, the connector is the culprit. Do not attempt to re-terminate in the field. Replace the full 330130-040-03-05 assembly.

Replacement procedure — critical steps:

  • Record the current gap voltage before disconnecting. Target is –10 VDC ±0.5 V at the calibrated air gap. This is your baseline for post-installation verification.
  • The 330130-040-03-05 is a direct like-for-like replacement. Total system cable length (probe cable + extension cable) must remain unchanged. Swapping to a different length suffix (e.g., -050 instead of -040) will shift the Proximitor® operating point and require full recalibration against the calibration curve.
  • Torque MIL-spec connectors to finger-tight plus 1/8 turn only. Over-torquing deforms the center pin and causes the exact intermittent fault you are trying to fix.
  • After reconnection, verify gap voltage returns to within ±0.1 V of the pre-removal reading. If it does not, check probe tip-to-target gap with a feeler gauge before assuming the cable is faulty.
  • In IS (intrinsically safe) installations, confirm the Zener barrier or galvanic isolator is rated for the 3300 XL system. The cable itself is passive, but an incorrect barrier will clip the signal and produce false low-amplitude readings.
  • No firmware changes, DIP switch settings, or address configuration are required for this cable. It is a passive coaxial assembly with no active components.

Common fault codes on 3500 Series monitors when this cable fails:

  • Alert/Danger on Channel X: Gap voltage has drifted outside the –18 V to –2 V usable range — cable open circuit or probe retracted.
  • Not OK (NOK) on Proximitor® LED: Power supply to Proximitor® is present but the signal chain is broken — extension cable is the first thing to check.
  • Erratic 1X amplitude on spectrum: Loose connector causing modulation of the gap signal — replace cable, do not attempt field repair of the connector.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 330130-040-03-05 is built for environments that destroy ordinary cables within months. The double-shielded coaxial construction provides better than 85 dB of EMI rejection — critical in motor control rooms where VFD switching noise can reach 100 MHz and overwhelm unshielded signal cables. The outer jacket is rated to withstand continuous exposure at +125 °C, which covers the hottest bearing housing installations on gas turbines and high-speed compressors.

Vibration is the other killer. Turbine bearing housings can generate broadband vibration exceeding 10 g RMS across 10–2000 Hz. The factory-terminated MIL-spec connectors on the 330130-040-03-05 are crimped and potted — not soldered — which means the termination does not work-harden and crack under cyclic mechanical stress the way field-soldered connectors do. This is not a detail. It is the reason OEM-specified cables outlast field-fabricated alternatives by a factor of three to five in high-vibration installations.

Humidity and condensation are equally destructive to coaxial signal integrity. The cable jacket and connector boot sealing on the 330130-040-03-05 are rated for outdoor and wash-down environments. In offshore and coastal installations where salt fog is a daily reality, the corrosion-resistant connector plating maintains contact resistance below 5 mΩ over the service life of the cable — a specification that generic aftermarket cables routinely fail within 12 months.
