The TC-CCR013 fails in predictable ways. Here’s what you’ll see on the Experion Station and what to do about it before the replacement unit arrives:

Fault Code: RNIM Communication Loss / FTE Path Fault
The Experion operator station will flag a yellow or red banner on the C300 controller faceplate in the Control Builder. You’ll see “RNIM Comm Fault” or “FTE Path A/B Degraded” in the hardware diagnostics. This is the TC-CCR013 telling you it’s dying. Don’t wait for a full controller fault — order the replacement now.

Fault Code: Controller Redundancy Lost
If the RNIM fails completely, the C300 pair drops from “Redundant” to “Simplex” mode. The system keeps running, but you’ve lost your safety net. One more hardware hiccup and you’re looking at a process shutdown. This is a P1 situation.

Replacement Procedure — Field Notes:

  • Step 1 — Verify the fault is the RNIM, not the FTE switch. Check the Cisco IE switch port LEDs connected to the C300 chassis. If both FTE paths show link-down on the switch side, the problem may be upstream. If only the module-side ports are dark, the TC-CCR013 is the culprit.
  • Step 2 — Confirm hot-swap eligibility. In most Experion PKS R400+ configurations, the TC-CCR013 supports live replacement while the partner controller holds the process. Verify in your site’s Experion PKS Hardware Planning Guide before pulling the module. Do not assume — check the revision.
  • Step 3 — Note the module revision label. The TC-CCR013 has hardware revision markings on the side label (e.g., Rev C, Rev D). Mismatching revisions between primary and redundant RNIM modules can cause pairing failures. Order the same revision if possible, or confirm compatibility with Honeywell TAC before installing a different revision.
  • Step 4 — No DIP switches on this module. Unlike some older Honeywell I/O modules, the TC-CCR013 has no physical address switches. The module address is assigned automatically via the C300 chassis slot position and the Experion PKS configuration database. Slot position is everything — install in the correct slot per your as-built drawings.
  • Step 5 — Firmware matching. After physical installation, Experion PKS will attempt to download the correct firmware to the new RNIM automatically if the system is configured for auto-download. If the firmware version on the replacement module is significantly older than the running system, the download may take 3–8 minutes. Do not power-cycle during this window.
  • Step 6 — Verify redundancy restoration. In Control Builder, navigate to the C300 controller hardware view. The redundancy status should return to “Redundant — Synchronized” within 5 minutes of a successful module swap. If it stays in “Synchronizing” beyond 10 minutes, check FTE switch port assignments and VLAN configuration.

Common Mistake: Engineers sometimes replace the TC-CCR013 when the actual fault is a degraded FTE switch port or a damaged SFP. Before ordering, swap the FTE cable to a known-good port on the switch. If the fault clears, you saved yourself a module replacement. If it doesn’t, the TC-CCR013 is your answer.
