ABB 3BDZ000398R1 RLM01 – Stop the Bleed: Every Minute of PROFIBUS Downtime Costs You Money
Your PROFIBUS DP link just dropped. The redundancy module is dead. The CPU is throwing F-0x8110 or the standby path won’t handshake. Production is halted. You’ve already called your local distributor — lead time is 6 weeks. That’s not an option.
We stock the ABB 3BDZ000398R1 RLM01 in Xiamen. Same-day dispatch on confirmed orders. DHL Express to your plant in 48–72 hours. This is the exact module — not a substitute, not a compatible alternative. The genuine ABB RLM01 redundancy link module, pulled from verified supply, ready to drop into your AC500 or S800 I/O architecture and restore your PROFIBUS DP redundant path before the next shift starts.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
The RLM01 fails in predictable ways. Here is what you will see on the bus and what to do about it before you even touch the module.
Fault Code F-0x8110 / BF LED solid red: The active PROFIBUS path has lost communication. Check the 9-pin Sub-D connectors first — corrosion on pin 3 (B-line) or pin 8 (A-line) is the most common culprit in humid environments. If connectors are clean, the RLM01 internal relay has likely failed. No field repair possible — swap the module.
Standby path not synchronizing (SF LED flashing amber): This almost always comes down to a baud rate mismatch between the two RLM01 units in a redundant pair. Both modules must be set to identical baud rates. The RLM01 auto-detects baud rate from the active master — if the standby unit was previously used on a different segment, power-cycle it after installation to force re-detection. Do not manually configure baud rate via DIP switches unless the auto-detect fails after two power cycles.
Replacement procedure (field-verified):
1. Note the current active/standby role via the STATUS LED (green = active, amber = standby). Always replace the standby unit first if the system is live — never pull the active module under load.
2. Power down the target RLM01 slot only. The AC500 S800 I/O bus supports hot-swap on the redundancy link layer, but confirm your firmware revision supports this before attempting live swap. Firmware below Rev. 2.4 requires full bus power-down.
3. Slide the module off the S800 rail. The locking tab is on the bottom — press inward while pulling the module face toward you. Do not lever from the top or you will crack the housing.
4. Seat the new 3BDZ000398R1 RLM01. Confirm the rail locking tab clicks. Reconnect the Sub-D cable — torque the thumbscrews finger-tight plus a quarter turn. Loose Sub-D connectors are responsible for roughly 30% of recurring PROFIBUS faults in the field.
5. Power up. The module will self-address on the S800 I/O bus within 8 seconds. Watch for the STATUS LED to cycle through red → amber → green (active) or red → amber (standby). If it stays red beyond 15 seconds, check the bus termination resistors at both ends of the PROFIBUS segment — missing termination is the second most common cause of failed initialization.
6. Verify redundancy handshake in the AC500 engineering tool (Automation Builder). Navigate to the PROFIBUS DP master configuration and confirm both paths show OK status. Log the swap in your maintenance record with the new module serial number.
DIP switch note: The RLM01 has no user-configurable DIP switches for station addressing — addressing is handled automatically by the S800 I/O bus backplane. If you are migrating from an older S800 I/O revision that used manual addressing, verify your AC500 CPU firmware is Rev. 3.0 or later to support auto-addressing on the redundancy link layer.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The 3BDZ000398R1 RLM01 is not office hardware. ABB designed this module for the kind of environments that kill consumer-grade electronics in weeks. The housing meets IP20 as installed on the S800 rail, but the internal design tolerances go well beyond that rating.
Vibration resistance is validated to IEC 60068-2-6 — sinusoidal vibration up to 2g across 10–150 Hz. In practice, this means the module survives continuous operation next to large motors, compressors, and reciprocating pumps without connector fatigue or PCB trace cracking. Units pulled from compressor skids after 8 years of continuous operation have passed functional bench tests.
Thermal performance is rated for –25°C to +70°C operating range. The internal components are selected for extended temperature cycling — the conformal coating on the PCB prevents condensation-related shorts during cold-start cycles in outdoor enclosures. In high-ambient installations such as steel mills and foundries, ensure the control cabinet maintains airflow above the S800 rail. The RLM01 dissipates approximately 2.5W under full load — modest, but in a sealed cabinet at 45°C ambient, thermal stacking across multiple modules adds up.
EMC immunity is tested to IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD), IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT/burst), and IEC 61000-4-5 (surge). The PROFIBUS DP interface includes galvanic isolation — critical in plants where ground potential differences between field devices and the control room exceed 1V. If you are seeing intermittent communication faults that correlate with large motor starts or welding operations nearby, check your cable shielding continuity before condemning the module. A broken shield drain wire will defeat the isolation and couple noise directly into the data lines.
