Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

After ten years of field calls, here’s what actually goes wrong with the AGH150W-4 and what to watch for when you swap it out:

1. Confirm the fault is the coupler, not the segment cable. Before you pull the module, check the PROFIBUS DP cable termination resistors at both ends of the segment. 2. Common fault codes that point to the AGH150W-4:

• SF + BF LEDs solid red on AC500 CPU: Coupler not responding on the S500 backplane bus. Reseat the module first; if the fault persists after power cycle, the coupler’s internal bus interface has failed.
• Intermittent slave dropouts at high baud rates (6–12 Mbit/s): Often caused by degraded coupler oscillator circuitry. Dropping baud rate to 1.5 Mbit/s as a temporary workaround confirms the coupler is the source.

3. Slot position and addressing. The AGH150W-4 does not use rotary DIP switches for addressing — it is auto-addressed by the AC500 CPU based on its physical slot position on the S500 backplane. Slot numbering starts from the CPU outward (left to right). If you’re replacing a failed unit, install the new coupler in the exact same slot. Do not move it — the CPU’s hardware configuration in PS501 Control Builder is slot-specific, and a position change will trigger a configuration mismatch fault requiring a project re-download.
