ABB CI570 3BSE001440R1 — Stop the Bleeding: Every Hour of PROFIBUS Downtime Costs You More Than This Module
Your AC800M controller is dark. The PROFIBUS segment is silent. Operators are standing by. You’ve already isolated the fault to the CI570 — the MasterFieldbus communication module that bridges your PM8xx CPU to up to 125 field devices. You don’t need a lecture on fieldbus theory right now. You need a verified, ready-to-ship CI570 3BSE001440R1 in your hands before the next shift starts.
We stock the ABB CI570 3BSE001440R1 in Xiamen, China. DHL Express and FedEx International Priority depart daily. Most destinations in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe receive shipments within 2–4 business days from order confirmation. No minimum order. No waiting on ABB’s standard lead time.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Fault Scenario: PROFIBUS segment goes offline, all slaves show “No Communication” in 800xA.
Before pulling the CI570, confirm the fault is in the module and not the cable. Check the CI570’s onboard LED indicators: a solid red BF (Bus Fault) LED with no SF (System Fault) typically points to a physical layer issue — check termination resistors at both ends of the segment first. If BF and SF are both red, the module itself has failed or lost its configuration.
Step-by-step hot-swap replacement procedure:
- In Control Builder M, set the CI570 object to “Offline” to gracefully detach the PROFIBUS master from the application. This prevents the PM8xx CPU from generating a cascade of I/O fault alarms during the swap.
- Note the slot position on the AC800M backplane — the CI570 must return to the same physical slot. The backplane assigns the module address based on slot number; inserting into the wrong slot will cause an address mismatch and the CPU will reject the module.
- Power down is not required for hot-swap, but confirm your site’s safety procedures. Disconnect the 9-pin PROFIBUS cable before removing the module to avoid RS-485 transient damage to adjacent slaves.
- Seat the replacement CI570 firmly until the locking lever clicks. The module performs a self-test on power-up — allow 15–30 seconds before checking LED status.
- After insertion, the CI570 will attempt to load its configuration from the PM8xx CPU automatically. If the firmware version of the replacement module differs from the original, Control Builder M may flag a firmware mismatch. Use the “Download Firmware” function in Control Builder M to align versions before going online.
- Bring the CI570 object back online in Control Builder M. Monitor the slave status list — all previously configured slaves should return to “Data Exchange” state within one bus cycle. Any slave remaining in “Wait Prm” indicates a GSD file or parameter mismatch that must be resolved in the hardware configuration.
- Verify cyclic data integrity in the 800xA faceplate for at least one full process scan before releasing the loop to automatic control.
Common fault codes and what they actually mean on-site:
- ERR 0x01 — Bus Fault: Physical layer failure. Check cable continuity, termination, and shield grounding. A floating shield at one end is the most common cause in humid environments.
- ERR 0x04 — Configuration Error: GSD file mismatch or slave parameter block corrupted. Re-download hardware configuration from Control Builder M.
- ERR 0x08 — Slave Not Responding: Slave device powered off, address conflict, or baud rate mismatch. Verify slave DIP switch settings match the GSD-configured address.
- ERR 0x10 — Watchdog Timeout: The CI570 lost communication with the PM8xx CPU over the backplane. Check backplane connector pins for corrosion or mechanical damage.
DIP switch and addressing note: The CI570 itself does not use DIP switches for address assignment — its PROFIBUS master address is set in software via Control Builder M (default: address 0). However, every slave on the segment uses hardware DIP switches or rotary encoders for node addressing. After replacing the CI570, slave addresses remain unchanged; only the master configuration download is required.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The CI570 was engineered for continuous operation in process industries where “controlled environment” is a polite fiction. ABB subjects the AC800M module family to IEC 60068 environmental stress testing before release — this covers sinusoidal vibration across 10–150 Hz at 1g acceleration, mechanical shock at 15g/11ms half-sine, and thermal cycling between −25 °C and +70 °C storage extremes.
In the field, the CI570 is routinely deployed in offshore platform control rooms where salt-laden air and humidity cycles stress PCB conformal coatings daily. The module’s RS-485 transceiver is galvanically isolated from the backplane logic, which means a ground fault or surge on the PROFIBUS cable does not propagate into the CPU backplane — a design decision that has saved more than a few PM8xx CPUs from collateral damage during lightning events near outdoor cable runs.
The backplane connector uses gold-plated contacts rated for a minimum of 100 insertion cycles, which matters when a module is being swapped during an emergency and re-seated multiple times during troubleshooting. Conformal coating on the PCB provides protection against condensation during plant startup after extended cold shutdowns — a scenario common in seasonal chemical plants and LNG facilities.
Units we ship have been stored in climate-controlled conditions (18–25 °C, 40–60% RH) and inspected for label integrity, PCB revision markings, and connector condition before dispatch. We do not ship modules with oxidized contacts or damaged housing — those go to scrap, not to customers with a live plant waiting.
