ABB NKTU01-10 — Stop the Clock on Your Downtime: 1m S800 Termination Cable, Shipped Today
Every minute your line sits idle costs real money. A failed or damaged interconnect cable between an S800 I/O module and its termination unit is one of the most deceptively simple faults that can halt an entire AC 800M control loop — and it’s one of the most overlooked spares in any maintenance stockroom. The ABB NKTU01-10 is a 1-metre, factory-assembled, shielded cable with proprietary S800 connectors on both ends. No field wiring. No crimping. Plug it in and restore signal continuity in under five minutes. We keep verified stock in Xiamen, ready to move via DHL or FedEx the same business day you call.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Before you condemn the I/O module itself, check the cable. In the field, NKTU01-10 failures present in three distinct patterns:
1. Intermittent channel faults (AI/DI channels cycling between good and bad)
Root cause is almost always a cracked shield or a connector that has worked loose from vibration. Pull the cable, inspect both connector housings for hairline cracks at the latch point, and check the shield drain wire continuity with a multimeter. If resistance exceeds 2 Ω end-to-end, replace the cable — do not attempt to re-terminate.
2. Entire I/O module goes offline (red LED, fault code 0x8001 or 0x8003 in AC 800M event log)
This is a communication loss between the module and the TU. Swap the NKTU01-10 first before pulling the module. In roughly 30% of field cases, the module itself is fine — the cable connector has lost its mechanical lock. Re-seat firmly until you hear the audible click, then clear the fault in Control Builder.
3. Noisy analog readings (AI810/AI820 channels drifting ±2–5% with no process change)
Shield integrity is compromised. This is common in cabinets near VFDs or high-current bus bars. Replace with a new NKTU01-10 and ensure the shield is grounded only at the module end — floating the TU end eliminates ground loops.
Replacement procedure (5-minute swap):
- In AC 800M Control Builder, set the affected I/O module to Offline mode — do not power down the rack unless your SOP requires it.
- Disconnect the NKTU01-10 at the module end first (squeeze the latch tabs, pull straight — never twist).
- Disconnect at the TU end.
- Route the new cable along the same path. Avoid sharp bends tighter than 50 mm radius.
- Connect TU end first, then module end. Both connectors must click positively.
- Bring the module back online in Control Builder. Verify all channel diagnostics clear within 10 seconds.
- Log the replacement in your maintenance record with the cable batch number (printed on the cable jacket).
No address switch or DIP switch setting is required for this cable. The NKTU01-10 is passive — it carries no firmware and requires no configuration. The I/O module retains its node address and configuration in non-volatile memory through the swap.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The S800 I/O platform was designed for process industries where the environment is never kind. The NKTU01-10 reflects that design philosophy. The full foil-plus-braid shield construction provides attenuation exceeding 60 dB across the 10 kHz–100 MHz range, which matters in cabinets shared with variable-frequency drives, contactors, and high-current switching gear. The connector housings are glass-filled nylon rated to IEC 60068-2-6 vibration profiles — the same standard used for railway and offshore applications. The cable jacket is PVC-compound rated for continuous operation at 55 °C ambient, with short-term excursions to 70 °C without deformation or insulation breakdown. In high-humidity environments (up to 95% RH non-condensing), the connector sealing prevents moisture ingress that would otherwise cause leakage currents on analog signal lines. We have supplied NKTU01-10 cables to petrochemical plants in Southeast Asia, cement mills in the Middle East, and pulp-and-paper facilities in Scandinavia — environments where lesser cables fail within months. Genuine ABB construction means the cable you receive today will still be performing correctly when your next planned shutdown comes around.
