Product Overview

ABB RDNA-01 64606891 — Stop the Bleed: DeviceNet Link Down Means Every Second Costs You Money

Your ACS800 drive just dropped off the DeviceNet network. The PLC is throwing Node Offline faults. The line is stopped. Maintenance is on the phone. You already know the RDNA-01 adapter board is the culprit — you’ve seen it before. The question is not what failed. The question is how fast can you get a replacement on-site.

We stock the ABB RDNA-01 (part number 64606891) in Xiamen, China, ready to ship via DHL Express or FedEx International Priority. Most destinations in Southeast Asia receive delivery within 48–72 hours. Europe and North America typically within 3–5 business days. We have processed emergency orders at 2 AM. We will process yours too.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Common fault signatures that point to RDNA-01 failure:

  • ACS800 Fault 35 (COMM MODULE): The drive detects loss of communication with the installed option board. If the fault clears on power cycle but returns within minutes, the RDNA-01 hardware is degrading — replace it, do not reset and walk away.
  • DeviceNet Node Offline / Duplicate MAC ID: If the scanner reports the drive node as offline despite correct wiring, the RDNA-01’s onboard MAC ID rotary switches may have shifted due to vibration, or the module’s CAN transceiver has failed. Check the physical switch position first; if correct, the module is the fault.
  • Intermittent I/O data corruption: Sporadic incorrect speed references or status word bit flips under load are a classic sign of a failing CAN transceiver on the RDNA-01. This is not a PLC program issue — it is hardware.

Step-by-step replacement procedure:

  1. Isolate and de-energize. Follow your site LOTO procedure. The ACS800 DC bus holds charge — wait the full discharge time specified on the drive’s warning label (typically 5 minutes after mains isolation).
  2. Record the existing MAC ID switch setting on the failed RDNA-01 before removal. The rotary switches (SW1 for tens digit, SW2 for units digit) set the DeviceNet node address. Photograph them.
  3. Remove the failed module. The RDNA-01 slides into the option slot on the ACS800 control board. Release the retaining clip, pull straight out. Do not flex the board.
  4. Set MAC ID on the new RDNA-01. Match the rotary switch positions exactly to your recorded values before insertion. A mismatched node address will cause a Duplicate MAC ID fault on the network and prevent the drive from going online.
  5. Verify baud rate DIP switch. The RDNA-01 has a baud rate selection switch (typically SW3). Confirm it matches your network: 125 / 250 / 500 kbps. Mismatched baud rate is the single most common commissioning error after a module swap.
  6. Seat the module firmly. Insert until the retaining clip engages. A partially seated module will cause intermittent faults that are extremely difficult to diagnose.
  7. Power up and verify. On first power-up with the new module, the ACS800 will auto-detect the RDNA-01 and load its default parameter set. Navigate to parameter group 51 (COMM MODULE DATA) to confirm the module is recognized. The DeviceNet scanner should show the node as online within 10 seconds.
  8. Restore and test under load. Run the drive at low speed first, verify I/O data integrity on the PLC side, then ramp to full production speed. Monitor for Fault 35 recurrence for the first 30 minutes of operation.

Firmware note: The RDNA-01 does not require firmware flashing in the field. The module firmware is fixed at manufacture. However, if your ACS800 drive firmware is below version 7.x, verify compatibility with ABB’s option board compatibility matrix before installation.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The RDNA-01 was not designed for a climate-controlled server room. It was designed for the inside of an ACS800 drive cabinet sitting next to a 500 kW motor in a paper mill, a steel plant, or an offshore platform. ABB’s option board design philosophy for the ACS800 series reflects decades of field experience in exactly these environments.

The module’s PCB is conformally coated to resist condensation and airborne contaminants — the kind of fine metallic dust that kills unprotected electronics in mining and metals applications within months. The CAN transceiver and connector assembly are rated for the vibration profiles encountered in compressor and pump installations, where resonance frequencies can fatigue solder joints on lesser hardware over time.

Thermal cycling is the other silent killer of fieldbus adapters. In applications where the drive starts and stops multiple times per shift, the option board experiences repeated thermal expansion and contraction. ABB’s component selection and PCB layout for the RDNA-01 account for this — the board uses through-hole connectors at the option slot interface rather than surface-mount, specifically to maintain mechanical integrity under thermal stress.

Every unit we ship has been stored in controlled conditions — anti-static packaging, humidity-controlled warehouse, away from direct sunlight and magnetic fields. We do not sell units that have been sitting in a damp storeroom for a decade. If a unit does not meet our incoming inspection criteria, it does not ship.
