Product Overview

AI-Tek 70085-1010-056 — Stop the Clock on Your Downtime

Every minute a turbine sits idle, a conveyor line stalls, or a drive trips on a lost speed signal, you’re bleeding money. The AI-Tek 70085-1010-056 variable reluctance speed sensor is the exact OEM-matched component that gets your process back online — and we have it on the shelf in Xiamen, ready to move today. No lead-time negotiation, no factory back-order queue. You call, we ship.

This is not a generic substitute. The -056 suffix locks in the specific cable length, connector configuration, and dimensional envelope that your original installation was built around. Swapping in a mismatched variant wastes time you don’t have. We stock the correct part number so you don’t have to gamble.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Ten years of field calls teach you that 80% of VR sensor failures fall into three buckets. Here’s how to diagnose fast and replace clean.

Fault 1 — No Speed Signal / Drive Trips on Speed Feedback Loss
Don’t assume the sensor is dead. Disconnect the cable and measure coil resistance across the two signal wires. An open circuit or a reading outside the rated resistance window confirms a failed coil — order the replacement now. A reading within spec points upstream: check the cable for chafing at the conduit entry, verify the frequency input card’s threshold voltage, and measure the air gap between sensor tip and gear tooth. The gap should sit between 0.25 mm and 1.5 mm. A gap that has drifted out due to bearing wear is the single most common field diagnosis that gets misclassified as a sensor failure.

Fault 2 — Erratic Speed Readings / Intermittent Faults
This is almost always a grounding or shielding issue, not a sensor failure. The 70085-1010-056 outputs a low-level AC signal — any ground loop or unshielded cable run near a VFD will inject noise. Verify the cable shield is terminated at one end only (controller end), and confirm the sensor body is not creating a second ground path through the mounting bracket. If the erratic behavior correlates with drive switching frequency, add a ferrite clamp at the controller input terminal before condemning the sensor.

Replacement Procedure

  1. De-energize the drive and lock out / tag out the shaft. Confirm zero speed before approaching the sensor.
  2. Disconnect the signal cable at the terminal block. Label polarity — the 70085 series is not polarity-sensitive for AC output, but your downstream card may have a defined input orientation.
  3. Back out the sensor using the correct spanner on the hex body. Do not grip the cable or housing barrel — you will damage the internal coil former.
  4. Inspect the gear tooth face for debris or damage. A chipped tooth produces a missing-pulse fault even with a brand-new sensor installed.
  5. Thread in the replacement 70085-1010-056 finger-tight, then advance to the correct air gap. Standard starting point: back off 1.5 turns from contact with the gear tooth. Fine-tune with the drive running at low speed while monitoring the frequency input on the controller diagnostic screen.
  6. Torque the locknut to the manufacturer’s specification. Vibration will back out an under-torqued sensor within weeks.
  7. Restore power, clear faults, and verify speed feedback matches the tachometer reference before returning to full production speed.

Configuration Note: If your speed controller requires a pulse-per-revolution count to be programmed, verify the gear tooth count has not changed. A replacement gear with a different tooth count requires a corresponding parameter update in the drive — the sensor stores no configuration of its own.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 70085 series was not designed for a climate-controlled cabinet. It was built for the places where equipment actually fails: turbine halls running 60 °C ambient, outdoor compressor skids exposed to monsoon humidity, steel mill floors where vibration is measured in g-force rather than mm/s.

The stainless steel housing resists corrosion from cutting fluids, hydraulic oil mist, and industrial washdown cycles. The internal coil assembly is potted in high-temperature epoxy, sealing out moisture ingress paths that destroy conventional sensors within a single wet season. The absence of active electronics — no Hall-effect IC, no signal conditioning board inside the sensor body — removes the primary failure mode that takes out powered sensors in high-EMI environments near large drives and transformers.

Vibration endurance is a direct result of the mechanical design: the sensor body threads rigidly into the machine structure, eliminating the resonance paths that crack PCB solder joints in active sensors. There are no plastic housings to fatigue, no surface-mount components to shake loose. Field installations in paper mill line shafts and offshore pump skids routinely exceed five years of continuous operation without intervention. When the 70085-1010-056 does eventually fail, coil resistance drifts measurably before the signal is lost — giving you a warning you can act on rather than a sudden unexplained trip at 2 AM.
