Ten years of field calls on 1336 PLUS drives teaches you a few things. Here’s what actually matters when you’re standing in front of a faulted drive at 2 AM:

Common Fault Codes Pointing to This Board:

  • F-005 (Overcurrent): If it trips immediately on enable with no load connected, suspect gate drive signal loss from this board. Isolate the motor, re-enable — if the fault clears, the board’s gate output stage is degraded.
  • F-012 (DC Bus Overvoltage) / F-013 (DC Bus Undervoltage): The 1336-PB board handles DC bus voltage sensing. A failed sensing circuit reports phantom bus faults even when bus voltage is within spec. Verify bus voltage with a meter before condemning the board — if the meter reads normal and the drive still faults, the sensing path on this board is the culprit.
  • F-002 (Transistor Desaturation): This fault originates from the gate drive protection circuit on the power control board. A single failed optocoupler in the desaturation detection path will lock out the drive permanently. The board is not field-repairable at component level — replace the assembly.
  • No Display / No Power-Up: If the control board (1336-BRF-SP1x) is confirmed good but the drive won’t initialize, check the auxiliary power supply outputs from the power control board. A failed isolated DC-DC converter on this board starves the control board of its operating voltage.

Replacement Procedure — Key Steps:

  • Document all ribbon cable and connector positions with photos before disconnection. The J1–J6 connector layout on the 74101-181-51 PCB is not labeled on the chassis side.
  • The SP8C, SP14C, SP19C, and SP23A suffixes denote frame-size kitting, not different PCB revisions. The 74101-181-51 board is mechanically and electrically identical across all four variants — confirm your frame size matches the mounting bracket configuration.
  • After installation, perform a drive self-test (parameter P036 = 1 on 1336 PLUS) before reconnecting the motor. This validates gate drive continuity without spinning the load.
  • If the drive was previously running with a degraded board, check the IGBT power module for secondary damage. A failed gate drive signal can cause IGBT shoot-through — inspect the power module before declaring the repair complete.
  • Firmware version is stored on the control board (1336-BRF-SP1x), not on this power board. No firmware matching is required for the power control board replacement.
  • No DIP switch or address configuration is required on this board. It is a passive interface assembly — install and power up.
