Product Overview

Bently Nevada 3300/20 Dual-Channel Thrust Monitor — Stop the Clock on Your Downtime

Your turbine tripped at 02:30. The DCS alarm log shows axial displacement out of range. Maintenance pulled the rack and confirmed it: the 3300/20 thrust monitor card is dead. Every hour that machine sits idle is burning through your production budget — and your operations manager is already on the phone.

This is exactly the scenario the 3300/20 was built to prevent — and it’s exactly the scenario we exist to resolve. We stock the Bently Nevada 3300/20 Dual-Channel Thrust Monitor in Xiamen, China, ready for same-day dispatch via DHL Express or FedEx International Priority. While your procurement team is still filling out the emergency PO, we’re already pulling the unit off the shelf.

The 3300/20 is the dedicated dual-channel axial position monitor within the Bently Nevada 3300 Series Machinery Protection System. It simultaneously tracks both the active and inactive thrust bearing positions, providing independent alert and danger relay outputs per channel. Lose this card and you lose your axial protection loop entirely — the safety system will force a shutdown or, worse, leave your machine running blind. Neither outcome is acceptable.

We’ve shipped this exact module to refineries in the Middle East, LNG terminals in Southeast Asia, and power plants across Europe — all on emergency timelines. Our logistics process is built around one priority: getting the right part to your site before the next shift starts.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Common failure symptoms for the 3300/20:

  • OK LED off, both channels showing fault: Most likely a power rail issue on the rack backplane — check the 3300/05 power supply module first before condemning the monitor card. Swap the PSU before pulling the 3300/20.
  • Single-channel fault, second channel OK: Probe or extension cable failure on the faulted channel. Verify probe gap voltage at the proximitor — should read –10 VDC ±0.5 V at nominal gap. If gap voltage is correct, the monitor card input circuit is suspect.
  • Erratic thrust readings, no hard fault: Check extension cable shield continuity and grounding. Intermittent shield breaks cause noise injection that mimics real axial movement. Also verify the proximitor is not mounted in a high-vibration zone without proper strain relief.
  • Alert/Danger relays chattering: Setpoint configuration lost after a power cycle indicates a failed EEPROM on the monitor card — the module needs replacement, not reconfiguration.
  • 4–20 mA output reading 0 mA or 20 mA hard rail: Indicates the analog output driver has failed. DCS will show a bad PV. Replace the card; do not attempt to recalibrate around a failed output stage.

Replacement procedure — field checklist:

  1. Bypass or inhibit the protection loop before pulling the card. Confirm with the control room that the machine is in a safe state or that the protection system is in bypass mode. Never hot-swap a thrust monitor on a running machine without authorization.
  2. Document existing setpoints from the System 1 software or the rack configuration printout before removal. The replacement card ships with factory defaults — all alert/danger setpoints, full-scale ranges, and relay configurations must be re-entered manually.
  3. Check rack slot assignment. The 3300/20 is not slot-universal — verify the replacement is installed in the same slot as the original. The rack backplane assigns I/O addresses by slot position.
  4. Verify probe gap voltage after installation before re-enabling the protection loop. Target: –10 VDC ±0.5 V at nominal gap for standard 3300 XL probes. Adjust probe gap if necessary.
  5. Perform a channel-to-channel comparison with a known-good reference (dial indicator or laser alignment tool) to confirm both channels are reading correctly before returning the machine to service.
  6. Re-enable protection loop and confirm OK LED is solid green on both channels before releasing the machine to operations.

Firmware note: The 3300/20 does not have field-upgradeable firmware. If your system integrator specifies a particular hardware revision, confirm the revision label on the card before installation. Contact us if you need a specific hardware revision — we can source accordingly.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 3300 Series was engineered for the environments where failure is not an option. The 3300/20 is routinely deployed in conditions that would destroy consumer-grade electronics within weeks:

  • Vibration: Turbine decks and compressor skids generate continuous broadband vibration. The 3300/20’s rack-mount design and card-edge connector system are mechanically robust against the vibration profiles found in ISO 10816 Class III and IV machinery installations. The module has been validated in environments with sustained vibration levels exceeding 2g RMS.
  • Temperature extremes: Operating range covers the full span of industrial environments — from cold-start conditions in outdoor substations to the radiant heat of a gas turbine enclosure. The analog circuitry maintains calibration accuracy across the full operating temperature range without field recalibration.
  • Humidity and condensation: Conformal coating on the PCB provides protection against moisture ingress in humid tropical environments and during seasonal temperature swings that cause condensation inside control cabinets. Units destined for offshore or coastal installations should be verified against the specific humidity rating in the OEM datasheet.
  • Electrical noise: The 3300/20’s differential input architecture and shielded signal path provide strong common-mode rejection, making it resistant to the EMI generated by large motor drives, welding equipment, and high-voltage switchgear operating in the same facility.
  • Long-term stability: The 3300 Series has a documented field history spanning decades. Units from early production runs are still in service in refineries that have never had cause to replace them. That is the benchmark we hold our replacement stock to.

Global Express Logistics

Our warehouse is located in Xiamen, China — one of China’s primary export hubs with direct access to DHL, FedEx, and UPS international gateways. Here’s how an emergency order moves:

  • Order confirmed before 14:00 CST: Same-day dispatch. The unit is packed, labeled, and handed to the carrier the same afternoon.
  • DHL Express Worldwide: Typical transit time 1–3 business days to Europe, Middle East, and Southeast Asia. 2–4 business days to the Americas. Door-to-door with real-time tracking.
  • FedEx International Priority: Available as an alternative carrier for destinations where FedEx has stronger coverage or preferred customs clearance relationships.
  • Export documentation: Commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin prepared same day. For destinations requiring additional documentation (e.g., import permits, end-user certificates), notify us at the time of order so we can prepare in parallel.
  • ESD-safe packaging: All modules are packed in anti-static bags, foam-lined boxes, and outer cartons rated for international air freight handling. We’ve shipped to sites in 40+ countries without a single transit damage claim.
  • Customs clearance: HS code pre-assigned for smooth customs processing. We have experience with customs requirements in the EU, GCC, ASEAN, and South American markets. Duties and taxes are the buyer’s responsibility unless DDP terms are agreed in advance.

If your plant is facing a hard deadline — a regulatory restart window, a contractual penalty clause, or a customer delivery commitment — tell us. We will work with the carrier to identify the fastest available routing and provide you with a realistic ETA before you commit to the order.
