Product Overview

330104-05-18-50-02-CN — Stop the Clock on Your Downtime. Ship Today from Xiamen.

Every hour a turbine or compressor sits idle because of a failed proximity probe costs real money — production losses, penalty clauses, emergency labor. The Bently Nevada 330104-05-18-50-02-CN is an 8mm eddy-current proximity probe from the field-proven 3300 XL Series, and we keep verified stock ready to move via DHL or FedEx the same business day you place your order. No lead-time negotiation. No waiting on a factory allocation. You call, we ship.

We have supplied this exact part number to petrochemical plants, power stations, and LNG terminals across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. When your vibration monitor throws a Not OK or your DCS loses the radial channel, this is the unit that gets you back online.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

After ten years of field work, here are the failure modes I see most often with the 330104 series and what to check before you even pull the probe:

1. Confirm the fault is the probe, not the driver or cable. A dead channel on the 3300/16 or 3500/42M almost always triggers a Not OK LED and a −24 VDC rail drop. Before condemning the probe, disconnect the extension cable at the driver and measure the gap voltage directly. If you read −24 V with no target present, the driver is likely the culprit, not the probe. Swap the driver first — it is cheaper and faster.

2. Check the gap setting on installation. The 330104-05-18-50-02-CN has a linear range of 0–90 mil. Factory gap for most radial vibration applications is 50 mil (1.27 mm), giving you a mid-scale output of approximately −10 VDC. Use a non-ferrous feeler gauge or a calibrated gap tool. Do not eyeball it. A gap set at 30 mil will clip on high-amplitude events; a gap at 80 mil puts you near the edge of the linear range.

3. Verify target material compatibility. The 3300 XL eddy-current system is calibrated for AISI 4140 steel. If your shaft is 316 stainless, Inconel, or titanium, the scale factor shifts — sometimes by 15–20%. You will need to apply a material correction factor or use a Bently Nevada material-specific calibration. Ignoring this is the single most common cause of false high-vibration trips after a probe swap.

4. Inspect the cable armor and connector before reinstalling. The CN coaxial connector is the weakest mechanical point. Any nick in the cable sheathing near the probe body — especially in high-vibration zones — will cause intermittent signal dropout that looks exactly like a bearing fault. Replace the full probe-cable assembly if you see any sheathing damage. Do not splice.

5. Firmware and monitor configuration. If you are replacing into a 3500/42M rack, confirm the channel configuration in the 3500 Rack Configuration Software matches the probe type (8 mm, 200 mV/mil). A mismatch here will give you correct gap voltage but wrong engineering-unit scaling on the DCS historian — a subtle error that can go undetected for months until a real event occurs.

Common fault codes to cross-reference:

  • Not OK (NO) — solid red: Gap out of range, open circuit in cable, or driver power supply fault.
  • Not OK (NO) — flashing: Intermittent cable connection. Check CN connector torque (finger-tight plus 1/4 turn).
  • High vibration trip with no process change: Target material mismatch or incorrect gap. Verify both before assuming a real machinery fault.
  • Slow drift on gap channel: Thermal expansion of mounting bracket. Normal in high-temperature applications — set alert setpoints with thermal offset in mind.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 3300 XL probe body is machined from 316 stainless steel with a PEEK-insulated tip. It is not a delicate instrument. I have seen these units survive direct steam impingement, compressor lube oil flooding, and continuous 150 °C ambient for years without drift. The armored cable uses a stainless braid over PTFE-insulated coax — it handles the vibration fatigue that kills standard instrumentation cable in weeks.

Vibration endurance is rated to 20 g RMS continuous, which covers the vast majority of rotating machinery installations. For applications above that threshold — high-speed gearboxes, reciprocating compressors — ensure the cable is clamped at intervals no greater than 300 mm to prevent resonant fatigue at the probe body junction.

Moisture ingress is not a concern at the probe tip, which is fully sealed. The weak point is again the CN connector at the driver end. In humid or wash-down environments, apply a thin bead of silicone RTV around the connector body after torquing. It takes 30 seconds and prevents the most common corrosion failure mode in coastal and offshore installations.

All units we supply are inspected for connector integrity, cable sheathing condition, and label authenticity. We retain traceability records on file. If you need a certificate of conformance for your maintenance management system, request it at the time of order.

Global Express Logistics

Our warehouse is located in Xiamen, Fujian — one of China’s primary export hubs with direct DHL, FedEx, and UPS gateway access. For urgent replacement orders, here is exactly what happens after you confirm:
