Product Overview

Bently Nevada 330525-CN — Stop the Clock on Downtime, Ship Today

Every hour a turbine, compressor, or pump sits idle because of a failed proximity sensor costs real money — in lost throughput, emergency labor, and contractual penalties. The Bently Nevada 330525-CN eddy-current proximity sensor is a direct, drop-in replacement for the 3300 XL Proximity Transducer System. We stock it in Xiamen and dispatch same-day or next business day via DHL Express or FedEx International Priority. No waiting on OEM lead times. No grey-market risk. Genuine hardware, verified provenance, out the door fast.

This sensor is the field-proven workhorse of rotating machinery protection. It operates on the eddy-current principle: a high-frequency oscillating magnetic field generated at the probe tip induces eddy currents in the conductive target (shaft), and the resulting impedance change is converted to a linear DC voltage output by the matched driver/oscillator. The 330525-CN variant uses the CN connector standard, widely specified in Asian and Middle Eastern installations. Its -18 VDC output convention is fully compatible with the Bently Nevada 3500 Series monitoring racks and System 1 software without any signal conditioning modification.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Field experience shows the 330525-CN fails or degrades in three primary scenarios. Knowing which one you are dealing with cuts diagnostic time from hours to minutes.

Scenario 1 — Gap Voltage Out of Range (Most Common)
The 3500 rack reports a “Not OK” or “Danger” state with no actual shaft event. Measure the DC gap voltage at the driver output with a calibrated DMM. Nominal gap for an 8 mm probe on AISI 4140 steel at 1.0 mm air gap is approximately -10.0 VDC ±0.5 V. A reading outside -7 V to -18 V indicates probe tip damage, incorrect gap setting, or driver mismatch. Before condemning the sensor, verify the extension cable is the correct length — the 3300 XL system is a tuned circuit; substituting a non-matched cable length shifts the scale factor and zero-point.

Scenario 2 — Intermittent Signal / High Noise Floor
Check the coaxial cable connector at the CN junction first. Moisture ingress at the connector is the leading cause of intermittent output in humid or wash-down environments. Inspect the O-ring seal on the probe body. If the connector checks out, measure AC ripple on the -24 VDC supply rail — anything above 50 mV peak-to-peak will appear as noise on the proximity output. A failing power supply module in the 3500 rack is frequently misdiagnosed as a sensor fault.

Scenario 3 — Physical Probe Tip Damage
Contact with the rotating shaft (rub event) or foreign object impact will deform the probe tip and destroy linearity. Visual inspection is definitive. When replacing: (1) de-energize the driver, (2) remove the locknut and back the probe out slowly — do not rotate the cable, (3) install the new 330525-CN and set the air gap to 1.0 mm (40 mil) using a feeler gauge or the gap voltage method, (4) re-energize and verify gap voltage at -10.0 VDC ±0.5 V before returning the channel to service. No firmware or DIP switch configuration is required for this sensor — all calibration is mechanical gap and driver matching.

Replacement Checklist:

  • Confirm replacement probe is 330525-CN with CN connector — do not substitute TK or standard BNC variants without recalibrating the driver
  • Match extension cable length exactly to the original (5 ft, 9 ft, 15 ft, 25 ft are standard increments)
  • Verify target material is ferromagnetic — non-magnetic shafts (titanium, some stainless grades) require a different calibration curve
  • After installation, perform a static calibration check per Bently Nevada procedure before enabling the protection trip
  • Log the new probe serial number in your CMMS for traceability

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 330525-CN is designed to operate continuously in environments that would degrade most instrumentation. The IP67-rated housing withstands full immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes — relevant in steam turbine bearing pedestals where condensate accumulation is routine. The probe body is constructed from 316 stainless steel with a PEEK (polyether ether ketone) tip insert, providing chemical resistance against lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids, and mild acidic condensates common in petrochemical service.

Vibration immunity is inherent to the eddy-current measurement principle: unlike piezoelectric accelerometers, the proximity sensor has no moving parts and no resonant frequency limitation within the mechanical structure itself. The coaxial cable assembly is strain-relieved at both the probe body and the CN connector to resist fatigue cracking under continuous vibration loads up to 20 g RMS across 10–2000 Hz — consistent with API 670 environmental requirements.

Thermal performance is validated across the full -35°C to +121°C range. In high-temperature bearing housing applications (gas turbine exhaust end bearings, for example), the probe body temperature can approach 100°C continuously. The PEEK tip material retains dimensional stability and dielectric properties up to 250°C, ensuring the eddy-current field geometry does not shift with thermal expansion. The matched driver, mounted remotely in a cooler location, maintains scale factor accuracy across the operating temperature band without field recalibration.
