Common fault codes that point directly to a failed DSS 1.3 card:

• F-xx / E-xx drive fault at power-up — If the drive faults immediately on enable with no load connected and no motor feedback error, the control card is the first suspect. Swap the card before condemning the power stage.
• Encoder feedback loss (resolver signal absent) — The DSS 1.3 handles resolver-to-digital conversion on-board. A failed RDC circuit on the card produces a feedback loss fault even with a known-good motor and cable. Verify cable continuity first; if clean, the card is the culprit.
• Velocity loop instability / oscillation at standstill — Corrupted gain parameters stored in the card’s EEPROM can cause this. A replacement card will restore factory defaults; re-tune Kp/Ki velocity loop gains after installation.
• Drive powers up but axis refuses to enable — Check the enable signal path first (hardware enable input, STO circuit). If those are confirmed healthy, a failed gate-drive interface on the DSS 1.3 card will block the enable command from reaching the power stage.

Replacement procedure — field notes:

• Note the position of any DIP switches or jumpers on the original card before removal. The DSS 1.3 may carry address or termination settings depending on the drive’s position in the axis chain. Photograph the board before pulling it.
• The card uses a card-edge connector. Extract with even, straight pressure — do not rock side to side. Inspect the connector fingers on the replacement card for oxidation before seating.
• After installation, perform a drive parameter restore from your CNC backup or re-enter axis parameters manually. The replacement card ships with factory defaults; your application-specific tuning data is not retained.
• On first enable after replacement, command a slow jog at 5–10% speed before running full-speed cycles. Verify encoder feedback counts are incrementing correctly in the drive’s diagnostic display.
• If the drive was previously running with a customized firmware version, confirm the replacement card’s firmware revision matches. Mismatched firmware between the control card and power stage firmware can cause unexpected behavior. Contact us if you need a specific firmware-matched unit.
