Common Failure Symptoms

  • Transmitter shows “Sensor not detected” or “No Memosens signal” — 80% of the time this is a cable fault, not a sensor fault. Swap the cable first before condemning the sensor.
  • Intermittent signal dropout correlated with vibration or cable movement — inspect the bayonet lock at the sensor connector. Partial engagement causes inductive coupling loss. The lock must click fully into position.
  • Calibration data not loading after sensor swap — the Memosens protocol transfers calibration history from sensor EEPROM through the cable. If the cable’s inductive coil is damaged internally, data transfer fails even if the measurement signal appears present. Replace the cable.
  • Persistent “Cable break” alarm despite intact outer sheath — PUR sheath can survive mechanical stress that severs the internal twisted pair. Perform a continuity check on pins 1–4 at the M12 connector. Any open circuit confirms internal wire break.
  • Noise on pH reading in VFD-dense environments — if the Memosens coupling is intact but readings are erratic, verify the cable is not routed parallel to power cables. Minimum 30 cm separation from 400 V AC lines is required.

Step-by-Step Replacement Procedure

  1. Isolate the loop: Place the transmitter channel in manual/hold mode to freeze the process output at the last valid value. This prevents false alarms during the swap.
  2. Disconnect at the transmitter: Unscrew the M12 connector or loosen the cable gland at the transmitter head. Label the cable routing before removal.
  3. Release the sensor connector: Rotate the bayonet lock counter-clockwise approximately 60° and pull straight back. Do not twist the cable body — the inductive coil inside the connector is fragile under torsional stress.
  4. Install the new CYK10-A031: Engage the sensor connector and rotate clockwise until the click is felt and the alignment marks are aligned. Finger-tight is sufficient — do not use tools on the bayonet.
  5. Connect at the transmitter: Torque the M12 connector to 0.6 N·m. Verify the cable gland IP rating is maintained if the installation is outdoor or wash-down rated.
  6. Verify sensor recognition: On the Liquiline CM442/444, navigate to Menu → Diagnostics → Sensor information. The sensor serial number, calibration date, and slope/zero values should populate within 10 seconds of connection.
  7. Check calibration validity: If the sensor was calibrated within the last 30 days and the calibration data loaded correctly, no recalibration is required. If calibration data is older than your site’s calibration interval, perform a buffer calibration before returning the loop to automatic.
  8. Release hold mode: Return the transmitter to automatic and monitor the first 5 minutes of output for stability.

Configuration Notes

  • The CYK10-A031 requires no address setting, DIP switch configuration, or firmware matching — it is a passive cable. All intelligence resides in the sensor EEPROM and the transmitter firmware.
  • If replacing a cable on a Mycom S CPM153 or CPM223 transmitter, verify the transmitter firmware supports Memosens protocol (firmware ≥ V2.xx). Older firmware versions require a transmitter update before Memosens cables will be recognized.
  • For ATEX Zone 1 installations: the standard CYK10-A031 is not Ex-rated. Use CYK10-A051 (Ex variant) in classified areas. Mixing Ex and non-Ex cables in a Zone 1 loop is a compliance violation.

  • Chemical resistance: PUR outer sheath withstands splash exposure to dilute acids (pH ≥ 2), alkalis (pH ≤ 12), chlorinated water, and common cleaning agents used in CIP cycles. Prolonged immersion in concentrated solvents is outside the rated envelope.
  • Temperature cycling: Rated for −25 °C to +70 °C continuous. The connector assembly maintains IP68 integrity across the full temperature range, including thermal cycling between outdoor winter conditions and heated process streams.
  • UV stability: PUR sheath is UV-stabilized for outdoor installations. No additional conduit is required for above-ground cable runs in direct sunlight.
  • Mechanical abrasion: PUR outperforms PVC in abrasion resistance by a factor of approximately 5:1 (DIN 53516). This matters in installations where the cable passes through cable trays with sharp edges or is subject to repeated flexing during sensor retrieval.
  • Inductive connector integrity: The Memosens inductive coupling is inherently sealed — there are no exposed electrical contacts at the sensor connection point. This eliminates the primary failure mode of conventional analog sensor cables: pin corrosion and moisture ingress at the connector.
