DA512 Dual-Element Probe Down? Every Minute of Downtime Has a Price Tag — We Ship Today
When your GE DA512 probe fails mid-inspection, the clock starts running. Delayed wall-thickness readings on a pressure vessel or pipeline mean halted production, regulatory holds, and mounting costs. We stock the DA512 in Xiamen and dispatch same-day on confirmed orders. No waiting weeks for OEM lead times. No compromises on authenticity.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
The DA512 is a workhorse probe, but field abuse takes its toll. Here are the failure modes I see most often and what to check before you condemn the probe entirely:
1. No signal / gauge shows “LOS” (Loss of Signal)
First suspect: worn wear face. The DA512’s delay line wears down with repeated contact on rough or corroded surfaces. Inspect the face under a loupe — if you see uneven wear or a flat spot, the probe is done. Before ordering a replacement, also check your LEMO-00 connectors for bent center pins; a damaged connector on the gauge side will mimic a dead probe.
2. Erratic or unstable readings
This is almost always a couplant issue or a delaminated delay line. Increase couplant viscosity (switch from water-based gel to a glycerin-based compound) and apply firm, consistent pressure. If instability persists across multiple couplant types and surfaces, the internal delay line bond has likely failed — replace the probe.
3. Readings consistently high by a fixed offset
The probe’s zero offset has drifted. Perform a two-point calibration on a known step wedge (ASTM E797 reference block recommended). If the gauge cannot zero out the offset within its adjustment range, the delay line thickness has changed — probe replacement required.
4. Replacement configuration checklist
- Confirm gauge is set to Dual-Element (DE) mode — do not run DA512 in single-element mode.
- Re-zero the probe on a calibration block at operating temperature before first measurement.
- Verify LEMO-00 connector seating — a half-seated connector causes intermittent signal dropout that is easily mistaken for probe failure.
- If replacing mid-job, re-run your full calibration sequence; do not carry over previous zero values from the old probe.
- For high-temperature applications (>50°C surface), confirm you need the HT variant — the standard DA512 is not rated for elevated-temperature contact.
5. Firmware / gauge compatibility note
The DA512 requires no firmware configuration on the gauge side — it is a passive transducer. However, if you are using a DM5E DL with data logging, ensure your gauge firmware is v2.3 or later to correctly log DE probe readings with the extended range algorithm.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The DA512 was not designed for a lab bench. It was built for the environments where NDT actually happens: offshore platforms with salt spray and 95% humidity, petrochemical plants where ambient temperatures push 45°C, and steel mills where vibration is constant and surfaces are never clean.
The dual-element pitch-catch design inherently rejects near-surface noise — critical when measuring corroded pipe walls where a single-element probe would struggle with interface echoes. The wear-resistant polymer housing absorbs the mechanical shock of repeated contact without cracking or deforming, maintaining consistent acoustic coupling geometry across thousands of measurement cycles.
In our pre-shipment bench testing, every DA512 unit is verified on a calibration step wedge across the full measurement range. We check signal amplitude, noise floor, and zero stability. Units that show any deviation from OEM specification are quarantined — they do not ship. What reaches your site is a probe that will perform from the first contact.
For operations in high-humidity environments: store the probe in a sealed case with silica gel desiccant when not in use. The LEMO-00 connectors are the most moisture-sensitive component — cap them when the probe is not connected to the gauge.
Global Express Logistics
Our dispatch hub is in Xiamen, Fujian — one of China’s primary export ports with direct DHL and FedEx gateway access. Here is how your order moves from our shelf to your site:
- Order confirmed before 15:00 CST: Same-day pick, pack, and handover to carrier.
- DHL Express Worldwide: Xiamen → most major industrial hubs in 2–4 business days. Tracking active within 4 hours of dispatch.
- FedEx International Priority: Available for destinations where DHL coverage is limited. Comparable transit times.
- Export documentation: Commercial invoice, packing list, HS code declaration (9031.80 for ultrasonic measurement instruments), and Certificate of Origin provided as standard. CoC available on request.
- Customs clearance: We pre-declare all shipments with accurate HS codes and declared values. No surprises at customs.
- Bulk orders (5+ units): Contact us for consolidated freight options and volume pricing. Sea freight available for non-urgent large-quantity orders.
We understand that a probe sitting in customs is as useless as a failed probe on-site. Our logistics team monitors every shipment and intervenes proactively if a delay is flagged. You will receive tracking information and a direct contact for any shipment queries.
