Fault Code 0x0041 / Module Not Recognized: Nine times out of ten this is a backplane slot addressing conflict. Before you pull the old module, note the slot number in your rack layout. The SD30B uses auto-addressing on the GE Series 90-30 backplane — the CPU assigns I/O references based on physical slot position. If you’re swapping into a different slot than the original, you must update the hardware configuration in Proficy Machine Edition and re-download to the CPU. Failure to do this will cause the CPU to fault on mismatch between expected and actual I/O map.
Fault Code 0x0080 / Output Overcurrent: Check field wiring before condemning the module. A shorted output channel will latch this fault. Disconnect field wiring, clear the fault, and test outputs individually with a known-good load. If the fault clears with wiring disconnected, the problem is downstream — not the SD30B.
Firmware Compatibility: The SD30B has hardware revision markers on the board label (Rev A through Rev D are common in the field). CPU firmware below version 9.x may not recognize Rev D boards. If your CPU is running legacy firmware and you’re installing a newer-revision SD30B, upgrade CPU firmware first or source a matching hardware revision. - Release the module locking tab, pull the SD30B straight out. Inspect the backplane connector pins for damage or corrosion.
- Seat the replacement SD30B firmly until the locking tab clicks. Verify the module is fully engaged — a partially seated module will cause intermittent faults that are extremely difficult to diagnose.
- Power up the rack. Observe the module status LED: solid green = healthy, flashing green = configuration pending, red = fault active.
- If the LED flashes green, re-download the hardware configuration from Proficy Machine Edition. The CPU needs to recognize the new module before it will enable outputs.
- Restore CPU to RUN mode. Verify all output channels with your field device checklist before releasing the line.
DIP Switch / Jumper Settings: The SD30B does not use external DIP switches for I/O addressing — addressing is entirely software-defined via the rack configuration in Proficy. However, verify the termination jumper (if present on your revision) matches your field wiring scheme. Refer to GE publication GFK-0356 for jumper positions by revision.
