Product Overview

Honeywell 2MLI-CPUH Experion PKS CPU Module — Every Hour of Downtime Costs You Money. We Ship Today.

Your Experion PKS system is down. The 2MLI-CPUH CPU module has failed. Your operations team is standing by, your plant manager is calling every 20 minutes, and the OEM lead time is 8–14 weeks. That’s the reality most maintenance engineers face when a DCS CPU goes offline without a spare on the shelf.

We stock the Honeywell 2MLI-CPUH in Xiamen, China. Same-day dispatch is available for orders confirmed before 15:00 CST. DHL Express typically delivers to Southeast Asia in 2–3 days, Middle East in 3–4 days, and Europe/Americas in 4–6 days. While your procurement team is still filling out the OEM RFQ form, your replacement module can already be in transit.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

The 2MLI-CPUH is the brain of your Experion PKS node. When it fails, the symptoms are rarely subtle — you’ll see a solid red FAULT LED, loss of FTE communication, or the controller dropping to a safe-state output hold. Before you pull the module, run through this checklist:

Common Fault Indicators:

  • FAULT LED solid red: Internal CPU exception or memory corruption. Power-cycle the chassis first. If the fault persists after two cold restarts, the CPU is the primary suspect.
  • FTE link loss (both ports): Could be the CPU’s FTE interface or the switch. Swap the FTE cable to a known-good port first. If the link still won’t establish after cable swap, the CPU’s NIC is likely failed.
  • Controller in PROG mode, won’t go to RUN: Firmware mismatch between the CPU and the loaded application. Check the firmware revision stamped on the module label against your Experion PKS server’s expected version.
  • Redundant CPU failover not completing: The secondary CPU takes over but the primary won’t re-sync. This is a classic sign of a degraded 2MLI-CPUH — it powers on but can’t complete the synchronization handshake.

Replacement Procedure (Field-Tested Steps):

  • Step 1 — Confirm redundancy status: If you’re running a redundant pair, verify the secondary CPU is in RUN state and holding process before touching the primary. Never pull a CPU without confirming the secondary is healthy.
  • Step 2 — Initiate controlled switchover: Use Experion Station to force a manual switchover. Do not hot-pull the primary CPU without a controlled switchover — you risk a process upset.
  • Step 3 — Power down the chassis slot: The 2MLI-CPUH is not hot-swappable in all configurations. Check your chassis revision. If in doubt, de-energize the slot via the chassis power sequencer before extraction.
  • Step 4 — Note the firmware label: Before inserting the replacement, confirm the firmware revision on the new module matches the existing secondary CPU. A mismatch will prevent re-synchronization. Firmware upgrade can be done via Experion Control Builder if needed, but plan for a maintenance window.
  • Step 5 — Seat and secure: Insert the replacement 2MLI-CPUH firmly until the ejector levers click. Tighten the captive screws to the specified torque (refer to Honeywell HW-PM-CPUH installation guide). A loose seating is a common cause of intermittent FTE faults post-replacement.
  • Step 6 — Monitor re-synchronization: After power-on, the replacement CPU will enter SYNC state. Full synchronization typically takes 2–5 minutes depending on application size. Do not attempt to switch back to the replaced CPU until SYNC COMPLETE is confirmed in Experion Station.
  • Step 7 — Validate I/O and alarms: Walk through your critical I/O points and confirm no spurious alarms were generated during the switchover. Check historian continuity for any gaps.

Configuration Notes:

  • The 2MLI-CPUH does not use physical DIP switches for addressing — node addressing is configured entirely in software via Control Builder. Confirm the node address assignment before going live.
  • If replacing a failed primary in a non-redundant configuration, you will need to download the application from the Experion server after the module initializes. Ensure your Control Builder project is current before the replacement.
  • FTE port assignment (Port A vs Port B) must match the physical cabling. Swapping A and B will cause FTE ring topology errors.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

Industrial DCS environments are not server rooms. The 2MLI-CPUH is engineered to operate in conditions that would kill commercial-grade hardware within weeks. Honeywell’s design validation for this module includes:

  • Vibration resistance: Tested to IEC 60068-2-6 sinusoidal vibration profiles, covering the frequency ranges typical of pump skids, compressor halls, and offshore platform decks. The module’s PCB uses conformal coating and reinforced connector retention to prevent micro-fractures under sustained vibration.
  • Thermal cycling: Validated across the full 0°C to 60°C operating range with thermal shock testing per IEC 60068-2-14. The CPU’s thermal management design prevents throttling or shutdown during sustained high-ambient operation in non-air-conditioned marshalling cabinets.
  • Humidity and condensation: The conformal-coated PCB provides protection against humidity ingress up to 95% RH non-condensing. In coastal or tropical installations, this coating is the difference between a 10-year service life and a corrosion failure in year three.
  • EMI/RFI immunity: Compliant with IEC 61000-4 series immunity standards. The module maintains stable operation in environments with variable-frequency drives, large motor starters, and high-current bus bars in close proximity.
  • Power quality tolerance: Designed to ride through brief power dips and transients on the 24 VDC supply rail without triggering a fault reset — critical in facilities where UPS switchover introduces a momentary voltage sag.

Every unit we ship from our Xiamen warehouse is bench-tested under load before dispatch. We do not ship modules that haven’t passed a functional power-on and communication verification cycle.
