Common Failure Signatures

• Intermittent I/O module faults (IOLINK loss): The carrier’s backplane connector pins corrode or develop micro-fractures from vibration. You’ll see sporadic “Module Not Responding” alarms on the Experion Station. Don’t chase the I/O card first — reseat the carrier and inspect the bus connector under magnification.
• Full node dropout after power cycling: The carrier’s power rail contacts oxidize over time, especially in humid coastal environments. A node that was stable for years suddenly won’t come back after a planned shutdown. This is the carrier, not the C300 controller.
• Slot-specific failures (one slot dead, rest OK): Individual slot contacts on the carrier can fail independently. If diagnostics show one I/O module consistently faulting regardless of which card you insert, the carrier slot itself is damaged.
• Fault Code IOLINK-0x04 / IOLINK-0x07: These codes in the Experion Event Journal point to carrier-level communication loss. Cross-reference with the C300 diagnostic page — if the controller itself is healthy, the carrier is the prime suspect.

Replacement Procedure — Field Checklist

• ☐ Document current I/O module slot assignments before removal. Photograph the carrier with all modules installed. Slot position matters for address mapping in some configurations.
