Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
The FC-BKM-0001 sits in the leftmost slot of the Series C controller chassis. Before you pull it, understand what you’re dealing with:
Common fault signatures that point to this module:
- BATTERY LOW / BATTERY FAIL alarm in Experion Station — the internal lithium cell has dropped below threshold. Controller memory is at risk on next power cycle.
- KEY SWITCH MISMATCH fault — the rotary switch contacts have worn or the module’s internal logic has failed. The controller refuses to accept downloads or mode changes.
- Controller stuck in PROGRAM mode after power restoration — corrupted key-switch state register, often caused by a failing BKM module during a power event.
- Intermittent SRAM checksum errors — battery voltage sagging during high-load periods causes memory corruption. Replace the BKM before the next planned shutdown, not after an unplanned one.
Step-by-step hot-swap procedure (Series C chassis supports live replacement):
- Confirm the controller is in RUN mode and the redundant controller (if fitted) has taken control. Verify bumpless transfer in Experion Station before proceeding.
- Rotate the key-switch to the PROGRAM position on the active module — this signals the chassis that a module change is imminent. Do NOT skip this step.
- Loosen the two captive screws on the FC-BKM-0001 faceplate (Torx T10). Pull the module straight out — do not rock it side to side; the backplane connector is fragile.
- Inspect the backplane connector pins for corrosion or bent contacts before inserting the replacement unit.
- Slide the new FC-BKM-0001 in firmly until both captive screws engage. Torque to 0.5 N·m — finger-tight plus a quarter turn.
- Rotate the key-switch on the new module to RUN. Experion Station should clear the battery fault within 30 seconds as the new module initializes.
- Verify the battery status LED on the new module shows solid green. A flashing amber indicates the internal cell is charging — normal for the first 4 hours.
- If the KEY SWITCH MISMATCH alarm persists after swap, perform a controller soft-reset from Experion Station. Do not cycle power — a hard reset will force a cold-start and lose unsaved setpoints.
Firmware note: The FC-BKM-0001 carries no user-flashable firmware. It is a passive hardware module. No firmware matching is required — any revision of FC-BKM-0001 is compatible with any revision of the C200/C200E/C300 chassis running Experion R310 and above.
Dip-switch / address configuration: None required. The module is auto-addressed by the chassis backplane on insertion. No jumper settings, no rotary address switches.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
Process plants don’t run in lab conditions. The FC-BKM-0001 is built to survive the environments where DCS controllers actually live:
- Vibration: Qualified to IEC 60068-2-6 sinusoidal vibration profile — 5–150 Hz, 1 g. Suitable for installations near rotating machinery, compressors, and pump skids where chassis vibration is a daily reality.
- Thermal cycling: Designed for 0–60 °C operating range with internal components rated to 85 °C junction temperature. Repeated thermal cycling from cold-start to full-load does not degrade the key-switch mechanism or battery cell contacts.
- Humidity and condensation: Conformal coating on the PCB provides protection against humidity excursions up to 95% RH. Suitable for coastal refineries, offshore platforms, and tropical chemical plants where humidity control in the control room is imperfect.
- EMI/RFI immunity: Meets IEC 61000-4 series immunity requirements. The module does not introduce noise onto the backplane bus — critical in installations where analog I/O modules share the same chassis.
- Dust and particulates: The sealed faceplate design prevents ingress of airborne contaminants into the module internals. Suitable for cement, mining, and steel plant environments where dust loading is high.
Every unit we ship has been stored in climate-controlled conditions. We do not sell modules that have been sitting in uncontrolled outdoor storage or flood-damaged facilities. Provenance matters — especially for a module that protects your controller’s memory.
Global Express Logistics
Our dispatch hub is in Xiamen, Fujian, China — one of China’s primary export ports with direct DHL and FedEx gateway access. Here’s exactly how your order moves:
- Order cut-off: Orders confirmed before 14:00 CST are packed and handed to the carrier the same business day.
- Carrier options: DHL Express Worldwide (preferred for speed), FedEx International Priority, UPS Worldwide Express. We select the fastest available routing for your destination — you don’t need to specify.
- Transit times: Southeast Asia 1–2 days | Middle East / Europe 2–3 days | Americas 3–4 days | Africa / remote regions 4–5 days. These are carrier-quoted transit times from Xiamen gateway, not estimates.
- Export documentation: Commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin are prepared for every shipment. HS Code 8537.10 is pre-classified for customs clearance. We flag dangerous goods (lithium battery) per IATA PI 967 Section II — no customs holds due to undeclared battery content.
- Tracking: AWB number sent within 2 hours of carrier pickup. Real-time tracking link provided via email and WhatsApp.
- Emergency freight: For genuine production-down situations, contact us directly on WhatsApp. We can arrange next-flight-out courier for critical shipments where standard express is not fast enough.
