Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Most common failure modes on the FTA-T-15:

1. Intermittent signal loss on specific channels. Nine times out of ten this is a corroded or loose screw terminal, not the I/O module. Before you pull the FTA, torque-check every terminal on the suspect channel group. Use a calibrated torque screwdriver — 0.5 N·m is the spec. 2. Ground loop noise after FTA swap. The FTA-T-15 relies on the cabinet’s common ground bus. If the replacement unit’s chassis ground lug isn’t making solid contact with the DIN rail ground clip, you’ll see 50/60 Hz noise riding on your 4–20 mA signals. Verify continuity from FTA chassis to panel earth before powering up.

3. Experion PKS reporting “I/O Module Fault” after FTA replacement. This is almost always a cable assembly seating issue. The interconnect cable between the FTA and the I/O module has a locking latch — it must click fully. A half-seated connector will pass continuity on a DMM but fail under the module’s self-test.
