Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

The TC-OAV081 fails in predictable patterns. Here is what field experience tells you before you even pull the card:

Fault Code BAD_PV / AO_FAIL on Experion Station: This alarm almost always points to one of three root causes — a blown output transistor on a single channel (the remaining 7 channels stay live), a corrupted EEPROM configuration block (module powers up but refuses to accept setpoints), or a failed SCIO backplane connector causing intermittent communication loss. Swap the module first; if the fault migrates to the new card, the backplane connector is your real problem.

Replacement Procedure (C300 Hot-Swap):

  1. In Experion Station, navigate to the affected AO module faceplate and set all 8 channel modes to Manual. Record current output values — your field devices will hold last value for approximately 30 seconds during the swap.
  2. Disconnect the IOTA field wiring termination assembly (TC-FPC series) from the module face. The IOTA stays wired; only the module is removed.
  3. Press the module ejector lever and slide the TC-OAV081 straight out of the backplane slot. Do not rock or twist — the SCIO connector is a 96-pin DIN41612 and bending pins will damage the backplane.
  4. Insert the replacement TC-OAV081 until the ejector clicks. The C300 controller will auto-detect the new module within 5–15 seconds and begin downloading the stored configuration from the controller database. No manual address setting or DIP switch configuration is required — the C300 architecture uses software-defined slot addressing.
