Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Common Failure Indicators
Before condemning the ITNC-EIS01-DRM, verify the symptom pattern. The unit typically fails in one of three ways: (1) the MS/NS LEDs both go solid red on power-up — this points to a corrupted internal configuration or a hardware fault on the DeviceNet ASIC; (2) the unit powers up normally but all DeviceNet slaves drop offline simultaneously — suspect the 24 V DeviceNet bus power supply first, not the controller; (3) the Ethernet link LED is active but FINS/TCP connections time out — check for IP address conflicts or a misconfigured subnet mask in the unit’s DIP switch or software settings.
Node Address & Baud Rate DIP Switch Settings
The ITNC-EIS01-DRM uses a rotary switch pair on the front panel to set the DeviceNet MAC ID (node address 0–63). Before swapping the unit, photograph the existing switch positions. The replacement unit must be set to the identical MAC ID as the failed unit — DeviceNet slaves store the master’s node address in their scan list, and a mismatch will prevent polled I/O from establishing. Baud rate is set via a separate DIP switch; confirm it matches the network (most automotive lines run 500 kbps). A baud rate mismatch produces a solid red NS LED with no slave communication.
CX-Integrator Configuration Backup & Restore
If you have a CX-Integrator project file (.cin) from the original unit, restoration is straightforward: connect via Ethernet, go online, and download the scan list. If no backup exists, you must rebuild the scan list manually using the EDS files for each slave node. Allocate 30–90 minutes for this on a large network (40+ nodes). The unit does not store configuration in the DeviceNet network itself — all scan list data lives in the ITNC-EIS01-DRM’s internal flash. A factory-reset replacement unit ships with an empty scan list.
IP Address Assignment
The unit’s Ethernet IP address is set via front-panel rotary switches for the last octet (0–99) combined with a software-configured base address, or fully via software if the rotary is set to 00. On a replacement unit, set the rotary to match the failed unit’s last octet before powering up. Failure to do this will cause the unit to come online at a different IP, making it invisible to the SCADA system until the address is corrected.
Firmware Version Matching
Check the firmware version label on the side of the failed unit before ordering. Units with firmware below V1.3 have a known issue with EtherNet/IP Class 1 connections dropping under high Ethernet load. If your application uses EtherNet/IP I/O connections (not just FINS), confirm the replacement unit carries V1.3 or later. Contact us and we will verify the firmware revision of our stock unit before shipment.
Watchdog & Fail-Safe Output Behavior
By default, when the Ethernet connection to the host controller is lost, the ITNC-EIS01-DRM holds the last commanded DeviceNet output states. In safety-critical applications, this behavior must be reviewed. CX-Integrator allows configuring a watchdog timeout (1–65535 ms) after which outputs can be forced to a defined fail-safe state. Verify this setting is replicated on the replacement unit — a unit with default watchdog behavior in a line that expects fail-safe-off outputs can cause unexpected actuator movement on Ethernet reconnection.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The ITNC-EIS01-DRM is built to OMRON’s industrial-grade mechanical and electrical standards. The PCB assembly uses conformal coating on production variants destined for high-humidity environments, providing resistance to condensation ingress that would otherwise corrode solder joints on unprotected boards. The DIN-rail latch mechanism is rated for repeated installation cycles without clip fatigue — relevant in maintenance environments where the unit is removed for inspection quarterly.
Vibration resistance meets IEC 60068-2-6 (10–57 Hz, 0.075 mm amplitude; 57–150 Hz, 9.8 m/s²), making it suitable for installation in panels mounted directly on press frames or conveyor structures where low-frequency mechanical vibration is continuous. Shock resistance per IEC 60068-2-27 (147 m/s², 11 ms half-sine) covers most forklift-impact scenarios in panel rooms adjacent to heavy manufacturing.
The 0–55 °C operating range without forced cooling is a practical advantage in tropical and subtropical factory environments — Southeast Asian automotive plants, Indian textile mills, and Middle Eastern petrochemical facilities routinely see panel interior temperatures of 45–50 °C in summer. The ITNC-EIS01-DRM operates within spec at these temperatures without derating. The 10–90% RH non-condensing humidity rating covers coastal and riverside industrial sites where ambient humidity regularly exceeds 80% RH.
All units in our inventory are stored in climate-controlled warehousing (20–25 °C, 40–60% RH) in ESD-safe packaging. Long-term storage in uncontrolled environments degrades electrolytic capacitors and oxidizes connector contacts — our storage protocol prevents both failure modes, ensuring the unit you receive performs identically to a freshly manufactured part.
