Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

After ten years of field work on PC800-series drives, these are the failure modes I see most often — and the traps that catch engineers during swap-out.

Common Fault Codes on the PC833-001-N:

  • Fault 1 – Overcurrent: Usually a shorted motor winding or a failed IGBT in the output stage. Before condemning the drive, megger the motor leads to chassis ground. If the motor checks out, the drive output bridge is gone — replace the drive.
  • Fault 3 – Overvoltage: Regenerative energy from a fast deceleration is not being absorbed. Check the regen resistor circuit first. If the resistor is open, replace it. If the resistor is intact and the fault persists under normal decel, the DC bus capacitors are degraded — the drive needs replacement.
