Common Failure Modes:

  • Membrane keypad dead zones: The most frequent failure. Caused by repeated mechanical stress on the polyester membrane layer. Symptom: certain keys register intermittently or not at all. The NCU logs will show missing operator inputs or axis-select errors. A full MCP replacement is the only reliable fix — membrane repair kits exist but rarely hold in production environments.
  • MPI communication dropout: The panel loses communication with the NCU. You’ll see alarm 380000 – MCP not responding or 380001 – MCP communication error on the HMI. Before replacing the MCP, check the MPI cable termination resistors (120 Ω at both ends of the bus) and verify the MPI address is set correctly — default is node address 6 for the MCP.
  • 24 V DC power rail failure: The panel draws approximately 0.5 A at 24 V. A blown fuse on the cabinet’s 24 V distribution rail will kill the panel entirely. Always check the supply voltage at the MCP connector (X1) before condemning the panel itself.
