Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

The ARND-3119 is the master coordinator of the entire TMdrive control stack. When it fails, the drive typically trips on one of the following fault codes — here’s what you’re likely seeing on the HMI and what it means:

  • Fault E-01 / CPU Communication Error — The top board has lost synchronization with sub-boards (gate drive, I/O, PSU). First check fiber optic connectors for contamination or physical damage. If the link is clean and the fault persists after a cold restart, the ARND-3119 itself is the prime suspect.
  • Fault E-07 / Control Power Undervoltage — Can be caused by a failing onboard DC-DC converter on the ARND-3119. Measure the 5V and 15V rails at the board edge connector before condemning the power supply board (ARND-3121).
  • Fault E-12 / Parameter Checksum Error — Non-volatile memory (EEPROM/Flash) corruption on the top board. A replacement board will come with factory defaults; you must reload drive parameters from your backup file before commissioning.
  • Fault E-19 / Watchdog Timeout — DSP or FPGA lockup, typically triggered by a voltage spike or EMI event. If the drive trips immediately on power-up with no load, this is the most common root cause pointing to ARND-3119 failure.

Replacement Procedure — Field Checklist:

  1. Isolate and lock out the drive cabinet. Verify zero voltage on DC bus capacitors (wait minimum 5 minutes after power-off).
  2. Photograph the existing board orientation, connector positions, and any DIP switch settings before removal.
  3. Note the DIP switch configuration on the ARND-3119 — these set the board node address within the drive’s internal communication network. The replacement board must be set identically. Typical factory default is SW1: OFF-OFF-ON-OFF; verify against your drive’s commissioning sheet.
  4. Disconnect fiber optic links first — use the locking tab, never pull by the cable. Cap the fiber ends immediately to prevent contamination.
  5. Remove the board using the extraction handles. Do not flex the PCB.
  6. Install the replacement ARND-3119. Confirm all edge connectors are fully seated — a partial connection on the 64-pin backplane connector is the #1 cause of “new board, same fault” callbacks.
  7. Reconnect fiber optic links. Power up the control supply only (not the main DC bus) and verify the board initializes — LED D1 should flash green 3 times then hold steady.

Firmware Note: If your drive cabinet is running TMdrive firmware v3.x or earlier, confirm the replacement board’s firmware revision matches. Mismatched firmware between the ARND-3119 and the gate drive board (ARND-3118) can cause intermittent E-01 faults under load.
