ABB NTAC-02: Stop the Clock on Your Downtime — Ship Today from Xiamen
Your ACS800 drive just threw an encoder fault. The line is stopped. Every minute costs money. The NTAC-02 pulse encoder interface module is the single component standing between you and full production recovery — and we have it on the shelf, tested, and ready to leave Xiamen within 24 hours of your order confirmation. No waiting on factory lead times. No back-and-forth with distributors who don’t stock it. One call, one shipment, one solution.
The ABB NTAC-02 is the factory-designed encoder feedback option card for the ACS800 drive family. It handles incremental TTL and HTL encoder signals — A, B, and Z channels — and feeds precise speed and position data directly into the drive’s closed-loop vector control algorithm. Without it, your drive falls back to open-loop scalar mode, and for crane hoists, winders, or high-inertia conveyors, that is not an acceptable operating state.
We source exclusively from verified channels. Every unit leaving our warehouse has been visually inspected and bench-tested against known-good ACS800 hardware before packaging. You are not buying a mystery box from a grey-market shelf. You are buying a confirmed, functional module with a clear paper trail.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Common fault codes that point to a failed NTAC-02:
- FAULT 29 — ENCODER ERROR: Drive lost encoder signal. First check cable continuity and shield grounding. If wiring is intact, swap the NTAC-02 — the input comparators on these cards fail silently after years of vibration exposure.
- FAULT 7 — SPEED ERROR: Closed-loop speed deviation exceeded limit. Can be a tuning issue, but if it appeared suddenly with no parameter changes, suspect encoder card signal corruption.
- FAULT 16 — OUTPUT PHASE LOSS (appearing alongside encoder faults): Occasionally a cascading fault triggered by loss of speed feedback causing the drive to misfire output switching. Resolve the encoder fault first.
Step-by-step replacement procedure:
- Power down and lock out. Wait a minimum of 5 minutes after main power removal before opening the drive cabinet. ACS800 DC bus capacitors hold lethal charge. Verify DC bus voltage below 50 V with a calibrated meter before touching any internal components.
- Document current parameter group 50. Use DriveWindow or the keypad to print or photograph all parameters in group 50 (Encoder Module) before removal. You will need to re-enter these after the swap.
- Remove the old NTAC-02. The card seats in the option slot with two retaining screws (M3). Disconnect the encoder cable connector first — do not pull the card with the cable still attached, as the PCB-mounted connector is fragile.
- Check jumper settings on the new card. The NTAC-02 has a voltage selection jumper for encoder supply: JP1 position determines 5 V TTL or 24 V HTL mode. Match this to your encoder’s supply voltage before insertion. Mismatch will damage the encoder.
- Seat and secure the new card. Insert firmly into the option slot, ensure the edge connector is fully engaged, and torque the retaining screws to 0.5 Nm. Do not overtighten — the PCB standoffs crack.
- Reconnect encoder cable. Use shielded twisted-pair cable. Ground the shield at the drive end only (single-point grounding) to avoid ground loops that cause noise on the Z channel.
- Restore parameters. Re-enter group 50 values. Key parameters: 50.01 (Encoder 1 Type), 50.02 (Encoder 1 Pulses/Rev), 50.03 (Encoder 1 Speed Filter). Verify 50.04 (Encoder 1 Status) reads OK after power-up.
- Run a no-load test. Jog the motor at low speed and monitor actual speed vs. reference in DriveWindow. Speed tracking error should be under 0.5% at steady state. If oscillating, check cable routing — encoder cables running parallel to motor power cables pick up switching noise.
Pro tip from the field: If the replacement card still shows FAULT 29 after a clean installation, check the encoder itself. A failed NTAC-02 often takes the encoder’s output stage with it if the failure mode was a voltage spike. Budget for an encoder replacement as a contingency before the technician goes on-site.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
Industrial environments do not forgive weak hardware. The NTAC-02 was designed to operate continuously inside ACS800 drive cabinets where ambient temperatures routinely reach 45–50 °C, cabinet fans push vibration through every PCB in the stack, and humidity swings follow the seasons of whatever facility it is installed in.
The card’s conformal coating on the signal processing section provides baseline protection against condensation and airborne contaminants — relevant in food processing, paper mills, and coastal installations where salt-laden air accelerates corrosion on unprotected copper traces. The differential signal architecture on the A/B/Z inputs provides common-mode noise rejection, which matters in steel mills and heavy press environments where ground potential differences between the encoder and drive can reach several volts.
Vibration is the long-term killer of option cards. The NTAC-02’s edge connector relies on consistent contact pressure over years of mechanical cycling. Units that have been in service for 8–12 years in high-vibration applications — compressors, crushers, centrifuges — frequently develop intermittent encoder faults caused by fretting corrosion on the connector pins rather than actual component failure. If you are seeing intermittent FAULT 29 that clears on power cycle, reseat the card before condemning it. If the fault returns within weeks, the connector is worn and replacement is the correct call.
Every unit we ship has been stored in climate-controlled conditions in ESD-safe packaging. We do not pull cards from decommissioned equipment and rebox them. Tested surplus units are bench-verified on live ACS800 hardware before dispatch.
Global Express Logistics
Our warehouse is located in Xiamen, Fujian Province — one of China’s primary export hubs with direct access to Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and daily consolidated freight departures to major global destinations.
Standard express routing:
- DHL Express Worldwide: Door-to-door in 2–4 business days to Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Tracking from pickup to delivery. Customs clearance handled by DHL in most destinations.
- FedEx International Priority: 1–3 business days to the US, Canada, and key European hubs. Recommended for North American customers with urgent timelines.
- TNT / UPS: Available on request for specific routing requirements or account-based billing.
Export documentation included with every shipment: Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, and — on request — a material test report or inspection certificate. HS code 8538.90 applies to most option card shipments; we pre-declare correctly to avoid customs holds.
For orders confirmed before 14:00 CST, same-day dispatch is available on in-stock units. We send tracking numbers within 2 hours of carrier pickup. If your shipment is time-critical, contact us directly and we will coordinate with the carrier for priority handling at the origin sort facility.
We have shipped to over 60 countries. Customs delays are rare when documentation is complete — and we make sure it is.
