Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Common fault codes that point to a failed SNB10D node:
- E1301 / E1302 — Node Communication Timeout: The SCU has lost Vnet/IP contact with the SNB10D node. First rule out cable and switch faults. If the CU2N LED is solid red or not illuminating at all after power cycle, the node controller itself has failed — this is the most common hardware failure mode on aging ProSafe-RS installations.
- E2101 — ATD0C Channel Input Fault: One or more thermocouple input channels reporting out-of-range or open-circuit. If the field wiring checks out and the fault persists across multiple channels, the ATD0C module has degraded — replace the I/O module first before condemning the full node unit.
- E3050 — Node Self-Diagnostic Failure: Internal RAM or CPU self-test failed on the CU2N. This is non-recoverable. The node unit must be replaced.
- Intermittent SIF Response Delay: If your safety loop response time is drifting beyond the SIL-validated threshold, check the Vnet/IP bus load and node firmware version. Nodes running firmware below R3.02 on a R4.xx SCU will exhibit latency anomalies.
Replacement procedure — field checklist:
- 1. Place the affected SIF in maintenance bypass per your site MOC procedure before touching any hardware.
- 2. Document the existing node address (rotary switch setting on the CU2N front panel — typically 01–15). The replacement unit must be set to the identical address before installation.
- 3. Power down the node by removing the 24 VDC terminal block. Do not hot-swap the CU2N node controller — only the ATD0C I/O module supports online replacement.
- 4. Disconnect Vnet/IP cables (label Port A and Port B before removal — polarity matters for redundant bus topology).
- 5. Remove the failed node unit from the DIN rail. Install the replacement SNB10D-413/CU2N/ATD0C. Verify the rotary address switch matches the original setting.
- 6. Reconnect Vnet/IP Port A and Port B in the correct order. Reconnect 24 VDC power.
- 7. On the ProSafe-RS Engineering Environment (SENG), perform a node download to push the safety application to the new CU2N. Confirm node status returns to “Online” in the SENG node monitor.
- 8. Verify all ATD0C channel readings against field reference instruments before releasing the SIF from bypass.
- Firmware note: If your SCU is running ProSafe-RS R4.02 or later, confirm the replacement CU2N ships with compatible firmware. Contact us — we can verify firmware revision before dispatch.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The SNB10D-413/CU2N/ATD0C was engineered for environments where failure is not an option. Yokogawa’s ProSafe-RS hardware undergoes qualification testing that exceeds standard industrial requirements:
- Vibration resistance: Tested to IEC 60068-2-6 sinusoidal vibration profiles — 10 to 150 Hz, 1g acceleration — covering the mechanical stress profiles typical of compressor skids, turbine decks, and offshore platform structures.
- Thermal cycling: Validated across the full 0°C to +60°C operating range with accelerated thermal cycling tests to detect early-life solder joint and component failures before units leave the factory.
- Humidity and condensation: Conformal coating on PCB assemblies provides protection against moisture ingress in high-humidity environments such as coastal LNG terminals and tropical process plants.
- EMC immunity: Compliant with IEC 61000-4 series — ESD, EFT/burst, surge, and conducted RF immunity — ensuring stable operation in electrically noisy switchgear rooms and motor control centers.
- MTBF: Yokogawa publishes FMEDA-derived MTBF data for the ProSafe-RS node hardware, available in the SIL certification package. Contact us to request the relevant FMEDA report for your safety case documentation.
Every unit we ship has been visually inspected, label-verified, and function-checked. Anti-static packaging with humidity indicator cards is standard. We do not ship untested surplus.
