Product Overview

330101-20-40-10-02-05 — Your Turbomachinery Protection System Is Down. Every Minute Costs You.

You already know the number. A single hour of unplanned downtime on a gas compressor train or steam turbine can run anywhere from $50,000 to $500,000 depending on the process. The Bently Nevada 330101-20-40-10-02-05 is the 8mm eddy-current proximity transducer at the heart of your 3300 XL vibration monitoring loop — and when it goes, the monitor goes NOT OK, the DCS throws an alarm, and operations starts asking questions you don’t want to answer without a replacement in hand.

We carry verified OEM stock of the 330101-20-40-10-02-05 in Xiamen, China. Not reconditioned. Not a field pull. Factory-new units, stored in climate-controlled conditions, dispatched via DHL Express or FedEx International Priority within one business day of order confirmation. Most destinations in Asia receive parts within 48 hours. Middle East and Europe within 72–96 hours. Americas within 5 business days.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Ten years of field commissioning and emergency callouts on turbomachinery protection systems. Here is what actually fails, in order of frequency, and what to check before you condemn the transducer and place an order — or confirm you need one and place the order faster.

Symptom: OK/PWR LED extinguished on 3300/16 monitor, gap alarm active
Before assuming the 330101-20-40-10-02-05 probe is dead, isolate the extension cable. Disconnect at the Proximitor® driver and measure DC output directly at the driver input terminals. A reading of −12 VDC ± 1 V at nominal gap confirms the probe and driver are functional. The fault is almost certainly the extension cable — check for crush damage at conduit entry points and corrosion at the BNC connectors. Replace with 330130-045-00-00 (4.5 m) or 330130-085-00-00 (8.5 m) as appropriate.

Symptom: Vibration channel pegged high, NOT OK, no process change
Verify probe gap before anything else. The 330101-20-40-10-02-05 linear range is 0.25–2.26 mm. Axial shaft migration from bearing wear or thermal growth pushes the probe outside this window. Re-gap to 1.0–1.27 mm (40–50 mil) nominal. Confirm Proximitor® output is −10.0 to −11.5 VDC at 1.0 mm gap on AISI 4140 target. If voltage is correct but the monitor still reads high, suspect target surface runout — check with a dial indicator at slow roll.

Symptom: Intermittent NOT OK, clears on its own
Classic symptom of a cracked probe body or intermittent cable fault caused by vibration-induced fretting at the probe-to-cable junction. Flex the integral cable near the probe body while watching the Proximitor® output on a meter. Any voltage spike or dropout confirms mechanical cable damage. The 330101-20-40-10-02-05 probe body and integral cable are a single assembly — the entire unit must be replaced.

Replacement procedure — field-critical steps:

  1. De-energize the monitor channel and lock out Proximitor® supply voltage. Confirm zero energy before touching the probe.
  2. Record the existing probe gap (count thread turns from the mounting bracket face, or measure with a non-ferrous feeler gauge). This baseline saves 20 minutes of re-calibration.
  3. The 330101-20-40-10-02-05 uses M10 × 1.0 thread. Clean the mounting boss threads. Apply a thin coat of anti-seize compound to the probe threads. Hand-tighten, then torque the locknut to 5.6 N·m (50 in-lb). Exceeding this torque cracks the ceramic-filled PEEK probe tip — a mistake that is not visible until the next calibration check.
  4. Reconnect the extension cable. Restore Proximitor® power. Measure output voltage at the OK terminal: target −10.0 to −11.5 VDC at 1.0 mm gap on standard AISI 4140 target material.
  5. No DIP switch configuration, no firmware update, no address setting required. The 330101-20-40-10-02-05 is a passive eddy-current assembly. All signal conditioning is handled by the Proximitor® driver (330180 series). Confirm your Proximitor® is a 3300 XL variant — pairing this probe with a legacy 3300/05 Proximitor® produces a sensitivity mismatch that generates false alarms and incorrect vibration readings.
  6. Perform a slow-roll verification at <600 RPM. Vibration reading should be <0.5 mil pk-pk. Higher values indicate probe mounting eccentricity or target surface irregularity — address mechanically before returning to service.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 330101-20-40-10-02-05 was not designed for a laboratory. It was designed for the bearing housings of gas turbines, the seal chambers of high-speed centrifugal compressors, and the gearbox casings of large rotating machinery in environments that combine heat, vibration, chemical exposure, and continuous operation measured in years rather than hours.

The probe body is 316 stainless steel. The tip is a ceramic-filled PEEK compound that resists hydrocarbon condensates, lube oil mist, glycol, and low-concentration H₂S atmospheres without degradation. The integral armored cable uses a fluoropolymer jacket rated to 121 °C continuous — adequate for routing through hot bearing housings and along steam turbine casings where ambient temperatures routinely exceed what standard PVC-jacketed cables can tolerate.

Vibration qualification follows IEC 60068-2-6 sinusoidal profiles up to 20 g across the frequency range relevant to structural resonance on reciprocating compressors and large axial fans. The eddy-current sensing principle carries an inherent advantage in electrically noisy environments: it is immune to electromagnetic interference from variable frequency drives, motor starters, and high-current bus bars. This matters on offshore platforms and in switchgear-dense substations where inductive noise corrupts capacitive and piezoelectric sensors.

IP67 ingress protection means the probe and cable assembly withstand temporary immersion — relevant during washdown operations and in installations where condensation accumulates in bearing housings. Units in our Xiamen warehouse are stored with desiccant packs in sealed anti-static packaging. What you receive performs identically to a unit pulled from a Bently Nevada factory carton.
