Ten years on the floor taught me one thing: most FBM6 failures are misdiagnosed. Before you condemn the module, run through this checklist — you might save yourself a replacement order.

Common Fault Codes & Root Causes:

• HARDWARE FAULT / MODULE FAIL LED solid red: Internal ASIC failure or corrupted firmware. Power-cycle the baseplate slot first. If the fault persists after 60 seconds, the module is confirmed dead — swap it.
• COMM FAIL on Nodebus: Before blaming the FBM6, check the Nodebus termination resistors at both ends of the segment. A missing 75-ohm terminator will kill comms on every module in the chain.
• Channel-specific 4–20 mA drift (>0.5% FS): Usually a failed input amplifier on that channel. The FBM6 does not support per-channel replacement — full module swap required.
• Module not recognized after hot-swap: The I/A Series performs automatic address assignment via the baseplate slot position. Ensure the replacement FBM6 is seated fully — a partial insertion will prevent the Nodebus controller from enumerating the module. No DIP switches required; addressing is slot-based.

Replacement Procedure (Field-Verified):
