Fault Code SM-0x14 / FTA Communication Loss: This is the most common trigger for a cable investigation. Before condemning the FS-QPP-0001, verify the FTA bay seating — a partially ejected FTA will mimic a cable fault. Re-seat the FTA, clear the fault, and monitor for 10 minutes. If the fault returns, the cable is the next suspect.

7. Remove bypass, perform a full SIS loop test per your site’s MOC procedure, and log the replacement in the safety system maintenance record.

Firmware / Configuration Note: The FS-QPP-0001 is a passive cable — no firmware, no DIP switches, no addressing. However, after replacement, the SM may require a hardware configuration download if the FTA was also replaced simultaneously. Confirm with your SM Engineering Station that the FTA hardware signature matches the loaded configuration before releasing the loop.

Common Substitution Pitfall: FS-QPP-0002 and FS-QPP-0003 are length variants. Substituting a longer cable in a tight cabinet introduces excess slack that can foul adjacent FTA connectors. Always match the original cable length from your system drawing.
