Product Overview

GE UR77H Relay Output Module — Every Hour of Downtime Costs You Money. We Ship Today.

Your protection relay tripped. The UR77H output card is dead. The substation is offline, the plant manager is calling, and your maintenance window is closing fast. This is exactly the scenario we built siemensplc.com for. We stock the GE UR77H relay output module for the UR Series universal relay platform — verified original, bench-checked, and ready to leave Xiamen on the next available DHL or FedEx flight. No lead-time games, no broker runaround.

The UR77H is a relay output card designed for GE’s modular UR chassis. It provides hardwired trip and close outputs for protection schemes in power utility substations, industrial switchgear, and generator protection panels. When this card fails — whether from a contact weld, a blown output driver, or firmware corruption — the entire protection function it supports goes dark. There is no workaround. You need a replacement in hand, configured and tested, before the next scheduled outage window or before your safety bypass expires.

We have been sourcing and supplying GE UR Series modules to maintenance engineers across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe since the platform was first deployed at scale. We know the UR77H’s failure modes, its firmware dependencies, and the configuration traps that catch engineers off guard during hot-swap replacements. That knowledge is built into every unit we ship.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

The UR77H fails in predictable ways. Here is what field experience tells you to check before you even pull the card:

Fault Code 0x1A / Output Relay Failure Alarm: This is the most common indicator of a failed UR77H. The relay self-test detects a contact that will not open or close on command. Do not attempt to reset this alarm without first isolating the output wiring — a welded contact on a trip circuit is a protection hazard, not a nuisance alarm.

Contact Welding on High-Fault Circuits: If the UR77H was in a trip circuit that interrupted a high-fault current, the output contacts may have welded shut. The card will appear to function normally in self-test but will not open under load. Verify contact continuity with the card de-energized and wiring disconnected before condemning the card — sometimes the fault is in the external circuit, not the module.

Slot Addressing After Replacement: The UR platform uses slot-based addressing. When you install a replacement UR77H, the chassis will auto-detect the card type and assign it to the physical slot. However, the output assignments in EnerVista UR Setup are tied to the slot number, not the card serial number. If you are replacing a card in the same slot, your configuration will map correctly. If you are moving the function to a different slot — because the original slot’s backplane connector is damaged — you must remap every output assignment in the settings file before downloading to the relay.

Firmware Compatibility Check: Before installing the replacement card, confirm the chassis firmware version via the front panel LCD or EnerVista. UR77H cards manufactured after 2018 ship with firmware that requires chassis firmware 7.40 or higher to initialize correctly. Installing a newer card into an older chassis without a firmware update will result in a MODULE MISMATCH alarm and the card will not come online. Pull the chassis firmware version first — this takes two minutes and saves two hours of troubleshooting.

ESD Handling: The UR77H output drivers are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Always use a grounded wrist strap when handling the card outside the chassis. Ground yourself to the chassis frame before insertion. A card damaged by ESD during installation will typically show intermittent output failures within the first 48 hours of operation — not immediately — making root cause analysis difficult.

Replacement Procedure (condensed field steps):

  1. Isolate the relay from the protection scheme — open all trip and close output circuits at the terminal block, not at the relay. Tag out per your site LOTO procedure.
  2. Record the current slot assignment and output mapping from EnerVista before powering down.
  3. Power down the UR chassis. Wait 30 seconds for capacitors to discharge.
  4. Release the card locking lever, slide the UR77H straight out. Do not rock or twist.
  5. Insert the replacement card, seat firmly until the locking lever engages with a positive click.
  6. Power up the chassis. Confirm the card initializes without MODULE MISMATCH or FIRMWARE ERROR alarms.
  7. Download your saved settings file via EnerVista. Verify output assignments match your protection scheme drawing.
  8. Perform a contact-by-contact output test using the EnerVista force output function before re-energizing the trip circuits.
  9. Remove LOTO, restore the protection scheme, and log the replacement in your maintenance record.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The UR77H was designed for environments that would destroy consumer-grade electronics in weeks. GE Grid Solutions built the UR platform to IEC 60255 standards — the same benchmark used for protection relays in nuclear plant auxiliary systems and offshore platform switchgear. The relay output contacts are rated for mechanical endurance exceeding 10 million operations under no-load conditions and 100,000 operations at rated load. The card’s PCB is conformally coated to resist moisture ingress in high-humidity environments such as coastal substations and tropical industrial facilities.

Vibration resistance meets IEC 60255-21-1 Class II, which covers the shock and vibration profile of switchgear panels mounted on steel structures subject to wind loading, seismic activity, or proximity to heavy rotating machinery. The operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C covers outdoor kiosk installations in northern climates as well as engine room panels in tropical regions without derating.

Every UR77H we ship from Xiamen is stored in a climate-controlled warehouse at 20°C ±5°C and 40–60% RH. Cards are held in anti-static bags inside foam-lined cases. We do not store modules on open shelving or in uncontrolled environments. Long-term storage in poor conditions degrades relay contact surfaces and PCB integrity — we take storage conditions as seriously as the original manufacturer does.

Global Express Logistics
