1. Slot Assignment — Don’t Skip This
The UR8CH must occupy a Type 8 slot in the UR chassis. Inserting it into a Type 4 or Type 6 slot will result in a MODULE MISMATCH alarm and the relay will refuse to arm. Before pulling the old card, photograph the slot label on the chassis backplane. Cross-reference with GE publication GEK-113000 slot assignment tables for your specific relay model (L90, T60, F60, G60, etc.).

2. Firmware Compatibility Check
The UR8CH hardware revision must match the relay’s firmware version. Use GE EnerVista UR Setup software to pull the current firmware string before ordering. If the relay is running firmware below 7.x, a hardware revision mismatch on the replacement card will trigger a CARD INCOMPATIBLE fault at boot. 3. I/O Point Mapping — No Auto-Remap
Unlike some modern PLC platforms, the UR Series does NOT auto-remap I/O points when a module is swapped. Every digital input and output assignment is stored in the relay’s settings file (.urs). After installing the UR8CH, open EnerVista, load the settings file, and verify that all FlexLogic operands referencing this card’s I/O points are intact. A missing operand reference will silently disable a protection element — the relay won’t alarm, it just won’t trip.

4. Contact Output Wetting Voltage
If the replacement card is a relay-contact output variant and your application uses dry contacts (no external wetting voltage), you must configure the output contact supervision in the relay settings. Failure to do so results in contact chatter or false trip signals on low-impedance circuits. Check the output type label on the card edge before installation.

5. Common Fault Codes on UR8CH Failure

• CARD FAIL — Hardware fault detected on the module. Power cycle first; if persistent, the card is defective.
• COMM FAIL — Backplane communication lost. Reseat the card firmly; check backplane connector pins for corrosion or bent contacts.
