ABB DSQC352A IRC5 Robot Controller Power Supply – Stop the Clock on Your Downtime
Every minute an IRC5 robot cell sits idle, the cost accumulates — lost throughput, missed production targets, and the pressure of a line manager standing behind you. The ABB DSQC352A is the primary power supply module for the IRC5 controller cabinet, responsible for converting incoming AC mains into the regulated DC rails that feed the drive system, computer unit, and I/O infrastructure. When it fails, the entire robot stops. There is no workaround. You need a verified replacement unit on your bench today, not in three weeks.
We stock the DSQC352A at our Xiamen warehouse, tested and ready for same-day dispatch via DHL Express or FedEx International Priority. This is not a grey-market listing — every unit is sourced from ABB-authorized channels and carries a 12-month replacement warranty.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
The DSQC352A fails in predictable patterns. Knowing them saves diagnostic time when you are already under pressure.
Common Fault Signatures:
- Error 20001 / 20002 (Power Fail): The FlexPendant displays a power supply fault immediately on startup or during operation. The 24 V system rail has dropped below threshold. Measure the 24 V output at the PSU connector before condemning the unit — a shorted downstream load (I/O board, drive unit) can pull the rail down and mimic a PSU failure.
- Intermittent E-Stop with no operator input: The 24 V safety rail is browning out under load. This is a classic sign of aging electrolytic capacitors inside the DSQC352A. The unit will pass a no-load bench test but fail under full cabinet load.
- Fan not spinning on power-up: The internal fan is thermally controlled. If the fan fails to start within 30 seconds of energizing, the PSU will thermal-trip within minutes. Do not attempt to run the cabinet with a failed fan — the IGBT section of the drive unit is the next casualty.
- Controller boots but drives fault immediately (Error 38xxx series): Check the ±15 V analog rails. If these are out of tolerance, the drive unit’s resolver feedback circuits will report position errors. The DSQC352A is the sole source of these rails in the IRC5 architecture.
Replacement Procedure — Key Steps:
- De-energize the IRC5 cabinet and lock out / tag out (LOTO) per site safety procedure. Verify zero voltage at the main disconnect with a calibrated meter.
- The DSQC352A is located in the lower section of the IRC5 cabinet, mounted on the backplane. Remove the four M4 retaining screws and disconnect the main AC input connector (X1), the DC output harness (X2), and the fan connector (X3) in that order.
- Before installing the replacement unit, verify the input voltage selector switch (if present on your cabinet revision) matches your site supply — 200 V or 400 V range. Incorrect selection will destroy the new PSU within seconds of energization.
- There are no DIP switches or address settings on the DSQC352A itself. However, after replacement, perform a full system restart and check the RobotWare event log for any residual fault codes. Clear the error log via the FlexPendant: ABB Menu → Event Log → Clear All.
- If the robot uses SafeMove or an external safety PLC, re-validate the safety configuration after any hardware replacement — this is a mandatory step under ISO 10218-2.
- Run the robot through a full warm-up cycle (at least 15 minutes at reduced speed) before returning to production. Monitor cabinet temperature via the FlexPendant thermal status screen.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The IRC5 cabinet is designed for factory floor deployment, and the DSQC352A is built to match that environment. ABB’s design validation for this module includes:
- Vibration resistance: Tested to IEC 60068-2-6 (sinusoidal vibration, 10–150 Hz, 1 g) and IEC 60068-2-64 (random vibration), covering the mechanical stress profiles of automotive press lines and foundry environments.
- Thermal cycling: Qualified across the full 0–52 °C operating range with 85 °C storage capability. The PCB substrate and component selection account for differential thermal expansion across this range without solder joint fatigue.
- Humidity tolerance: Rated to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing. The conformal coating on the main PCB provides a barrier against condensation events during cold-start in unheated facilities.
- EMC compliance: Meets EN 61000-4-4 (electrical fast transient / burst) and EN 61000-4-5 (surge immunity) requirements. The input filter stage suppresses conducted interference from variable-frequency drives and welding equipment sharing the same distribution panel.
- Overcurrent and short-circuit protection: Each output rail is independently current-limited. A fault on the 24 V I/O rail will not collapse the 5 V logic rail or the ±15 V analog rails, preventing cascading failures across the controller.
