Ten years of field calls on S800 racks teach you the same patterns. Here’s what actually matters when you’re standing in front of a dead AI810:

1. Confirm the fault before you pull the module. On the AC800M, check the hardware tree in Control Builder. A red X on the AI810 node with error code 0x0021 (Module Missing) or 0x0023 (Hardware Fault) confirms the module itself — not the base unit or optical modem — is the culprit. If you’re seeing 0x0031 (Communication Error), check the CI854A/CI858 modem first; swapping the AI810 won’t fix a dead modem.

2. Address assignment — this is where most replacements go wrong. The AI810 uses automatic address assignment via the S800 base unit slot position. There are no DIP switches on the module itself. The slot number in the physical rack must match the hardware address configured in Control Builder. If you’re inserting a replacement into a different slot than the original, you will get a mismatch alarm. Slot 1 = address 1. Don’t move it.
