Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

The FDCO-01 sits in the DDCS communication chain between your ACS800 drive and the master controller or adjacent follower drives. When it fails, the drive typically raises one of the following fault codes:

  • FF52 / DDCS LINK FAULT — Loss of fiber optic communication. First check the POF cable connectors for contamination or physical damage before condemning the module itself.
  • FF53 / DDCS CH1 TIMEOUT — Channel 1 is not receiving data frames. If the cable checks out, the FDCO-01 transmitter LED is likely dead.
  • FF54 / DDCS CH2 TIMEOUT — Same as above on Channel 2. Common in master/follower topologies where the follower drive loses sync.
  • A-2011 / COMM MODULE WARNING — Intermittent signal. Often caused by a cracked fiber connector or a module that is partially seated in the option slot.

Replacement procedure (field-verified steps):

  1. Power down the ACS800 drive and wait for the DC bus to discharge fully — minimum 5 minutes after mains isolation. Confirm with a multimeter across the DC bus terminals before touching any internal components.
  2. Locate the FDCO-01 in the option slot on the control board. It is retained by a single locking tab — no screws. Press the tab and slide the module straight out.
  3. Inspect the option slot connector pins for bent contacts or corrosion. Clean with isopropyl alcohol if needed before inserting the replacement.
  4. Slide the new FDCO-01 firmly into the slot until the locking tab clicks. Do not force it — if resistance is felt, check alignment.
  5. Reconnect the POF fiber cables. The TX and RX ports are labeled on the module housing. Swapping them is the single most common installation error in the field — double-check before powering up.
  6. Power the drive and navigate to the parameter group 70 (DDCS Control) in the ACS800 parameter set. Verify that parameter 70.01 (CH1 Node Address) matches the address expected by the master controller. The FDCO-01 does not have physical DIP switches — all addressing is done via drive parameters.
  7. Confirm the DDCS link status in parameter 70.18 (CH1 Status Word). A value of 0x0001 indicates an active, healthy link.
  8. If the drive is part of a multi-drive master/follower chain, verify that the ring topology is intact and that no other node address conflicts exist across the fiber loop.

No firmware flashing is required for the FDCO-01 itself — it is a passive optical interface module. However, if the ACS800 drive firmware is below version 7.x, confirm compatibility with your ABB system integrator before installation.
