Fault Codes That Point to a Dead NINT-73C

Before you pull the board, confirm the diagnosis. On an ACS800 running standard firmware, these are the faults that consistently trace back to a failed NINT-73C:

  • FF52 – DDCS CH0 LOSS: The master controller has lost the fiber link on channel 0. If the cable checks out and the NDBU branching unit is healthy, the transceiver on the NINT-73C is the next suspect.
  • FF53 / FF54 – DDCS CH1/CH2 LOSS: Same logic applies to follower-side channels. A single failed transceiver on one channel will not always kill the others — isolate by channel.
  • FF61 – FOLLOWER LOST: The master drive can no longer see a follower. Swap the NINT-73C in the follower first; it’s statistically the more stressed board in a ring topology.
  • FF81 – COMM MODULE FAULT: Generic option board communication failure. Power-cycle the drive first. If the fault persists after a cold restart, the board is gone.

Step-by-Step Replacement Procedure

  4. Release the option board latch. The NINT-73C seats into the RMIO option slot with a plastic retention latch. Press the latch tab and slide the board straight out — no tools required. Avoid flexing the PCB.
