ABB RINT-5611 / RINT-6621C — Every Hour of Downtime Costs You. We Ship Today.
Your ACS800 or DCS800 drive just threw a fault. The DDCS ring is broken. The line is stopped. You’ve already pulled the fiber optic interface board and confirmed it’s dead — burnt connector, no LED activity, or a hard fault code pointing straight at the communication option board. You need a RINT-5611 or RINT-6621C now, not in three weeks.
We stock this board in Xiamen. It ships today via DHL Express. Most destinations in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe receive it within 3–5 business days. This is not a promise — it is our standard operating procedure for MRO emergencies.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Common fault signatures that point to a failed RINT-5611/6621C:
- ACS800 Fault 9 (COMM MODULE FAULT): Drive loses DDCS communication with master controller or follower drives. First step — swap the fiber cables to rule out a broken strand. If fault persists with known-good cables, the board is the culprit.
- No LED activity on CH1/CH2: The RINT board has TX/RX LEDs per channel. A completely dark board after power-up with cables connected means the board has lost its internal power rail or the DDCS transceiver has failed. Do not waste time re-seating — replace.
- Intermittent DDCS ring dropouts: Often caused by a degraded fiber connector on the board itself. Clean the ST connectors with IPA and a lint-free swab first. If dropouts continue, the transceiver is marginal — replace before it causes a full trip during production.
- Drive powers up but master PLC cannot establish DDCS link: Check parameter group 70 (DDCS Control) in the ACS800 parameter set. Confirm CH1 node address matches the master’s expected address. If parameters are correct and link still fails, the board is at fault.
Replacement procedure — field-tested steps:
- De-energize the drive fully. Wait for the DC bus to discharge (minimum 5 minutes — verify with a meter on the DC bus terminals).
- Label and photograph all fiber connections before removal. DDCS channels are directional — TX to RX, RX to TX.
- Remove the old RINT board from its option slot. Note the slot designation (SLOT 1 / SLOT 2 / SLOT 3) — this must match the parameter assignment in group 98 (OPTION MODULES).
- Install the replacement RINT-5611/6621C. The board is keyed — it only seats correctly in one orientation. Do not force it.
- Reconnect fiber cables. Verify TX/RX polarity against the wiring diagram.
- Power up the drive. Navigate to parameter 98.02 (or 98.03 depending on slot) and confirm the drive recognizes the new board. The parameter should auto-detect the module type.
- Check parameter group 70 — confirm DDCS node address, baud rate (typically 4 Mbit/s), and ring/star topology setting match the system configuration.
- Restore DDCS communication from the master controller. Verify all follower drives re-join the ring. Monitor for 10–15 minutes before resuming production.
Configuration note — firmware matching: The RINT-5611 and RINT-6621C share ABB part number 64690698 and are firmware-transparent. The drive’s control unit firmware handles all DDCS protocol management — no separate firmware flashing is required on the replacement board. However, if your ACS800 control unit firmware is below version 7.x, verify compatibility with ABB technical bulletin 3AFE68389741 before installation.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The RINT-5611/6621C was not designed for a clean server room. It was designed for a pulp mill, a cement plant, a steel rolling line — environments where the air carries conductive dust, the floor vibrates at 50 Hz, and the ambient temperature swings 30°C between day and night shifts.
The PCB is conformal-coated to IEC 60721-3-3 Class 3C2, protecting against corrosive gases, humidity condensation, and airborne particulates. The fiber optic interface provides complete galvanic isolation between the drive’s high-voltage power section and the control network — eliminating ground loop interference that would corrupt copper-based communication in the same environment.
Vibration resistance is validated to IEC 60068-2-6: 1–150 Hz, 1g continuous. The board-to-backplane connector uses a positive-locking mechanism that maintains contact integrity even in high-vibration machinery such as compressors, crushers, and rolling mills. Thermal cycling endurance is rated for 10,000 cycles across the full operating range — this is a board built to outlast the drive it serves.
Every unit we dispatch from Xiamen is inspected under magnification for solder joint integrity, connector pin condition, and PCB surface contamination. We do not ship boards that show any sign of prior installation damage, flux residue, or mechanical stress on the fiber optic connectors.
