Product Overview

ABB SNAT-617-CHC 61037136 — Ship Today, Back Online Tomorrow

A tripped ACS 600 or ACS 800 drive with a dead SNAT-617-CHC board is not a maintenance issue — it is a production crisis. Whether you are running a cement kiln, a water treatment blower, a paper machine, or a compressor train, every hour that drive sits cold is money leaving the building. The SNAT-617-CHC is the supervisory control heart of the ACS 600/800 platform. When it fails, the drive fails. Full stop.

We carry verified stock of the ABB SNAT-617-CHC (order code 61037136) in our Xiamen dispatch warehouse. Orders confirmed before 14:00 CST ship the same day. No minimum order. No distributor queue. No factory lead time. You get a tracking number, not a promise.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Ten years of field calls teach you to read a drive’s fault history before you touch anything. Here is what the SNAT-617-CHC failure pattern actually looks like in practice — and how to replace it without creating a second problem.

Fault signatures that point directly at the CHC board:

  • F-53 / F-54 — PPCC Link Fault: Internal communication between the CHC and the RMIO motor control board has collapsed. A single occurrence after a power surge can be a transient. Recurring F-53/F-54 within the same shift, especially with no upstream power quality event, means the CHC’s communication ASIC is degrading. Do not waste time re-seating the ribbon cable more than once.
  • CDP panel dead with drive energized: The 24 V supply to the CDP 312 panel runs through the CHC board. If the panel is completely dark and you have confirmed incoming supply voltage at the drive terminals, the CHC power section has failed. The RMIO board is almost certainly fine.
  • Fieldbus adapter not initializing after reboot: The CHC board manages the adapter slot handshake at power-up. If you have confirmed the RDCO or RDNA adapter works in a different drive and it still will not initialize in this one, the CHC slot interface is the fault point.
  • Sporadic DI/DO faults with no wiring changes: Random digital input or output faults that appear and clear without any field wiring disturbance are a classic sign of a failing CHC processor — the I/O polling cycle is dropping frames intermittently before the board fails completely.
  • Drive trips immediately on run command, no motor fault: If the drive trips on a control-side fault (not an overcurrent or earth fault) the instant a run command is issued, the CHC board is failing to complete the pre-run self-check handshake with the RMIO.

Replacement procedure — what the manual does not emphasize enough:

  1. Back up parameters before anything else. Use DriveWindow or the CDP 312 panel upload function. The CHC board does not store drive parameters, but the RMIO does — and a botched replacement that damages the RMIO will wipe them. Have a backup. Always.
  2. Full LOTO. Main breaker open, locked, tagged. Wait a minimum of 5 minutes for DC bus capacitors to discharge. Measure the DC bus terminals with a calibrated meter — do not trust the drive display, which runs off the CHC board you are about to remove.
  3. ESD discipline. Wrist strap to drive chassis ground before touching the board. The CHC contains ESD-sensitive ICs. One ungrounded contact with the wrong pin destroys the replacement before it is installed.
  4. Photograph before disconnecting. The J1/J2/J3 connector labels are printed on the PCB but are difficult to read in a cramped cabinet under poor lighting. Take a photo on your phone before pulling a single connector.
  5. Inspect the backplane connector. Before seating the new board, examine the backplane edge connector for bent pins or oxidation. A damaged backplane will kill the replacement board. If pins are bent, straighten them carefully with a dental pick before proceeding.
  6. Seat with even pressure. The CHC board engages a backplane edge connector. Apply pressure evenly across the board — do not rock it. Secure the M3 standoff screws to 0.5 Nm.
  7. Power up and verify systematically. Confirm CDP panel initializes → fieldbus adapter recognized → all I/O channels respond → no active faults in the fault log before issuing a run command.
  8. Restore and verify parameters. Download the saved parameter set. Cross-check motor nameplate data against parameter group 99. Run an ID run if the motor has not been identified with this specific RMIO board.

Configuration note: The SNAT-617-CHC has no DIP switches, address jumpers, or node ID settings. It is auto-addressed within the ACS 600/800 architecture. Firmware compatibility is managed at the RMIO level; in the vast majority of installations the CHC board is firmware-agnostic and requires no firmware update after replacement.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The ACS 600/800 platform was not designed for climate-controlled server rooms. It was designed for pulp mills, offshore platforms, mining concentrators, and steel plants — environments where temperature, humidity, vibration, and airborne contamination are daily realities, not edge cases.

The SNAT-617-CHC PCB carries a conformal coating rated for IEC 60721-3-3 class 3C2 chemical environments, which covers the hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide concentrations found in pulp and paper and wastewater treatment applications. The onboard power regulation tolerates the voltage transients and harmonic distortion common in heavy industrial power distribution — the kind of supply quality that destroys consumer-grade electronics within weeks.

Vibration resistance is validated per IEC 60068-2-6 across the 5–150 Hz spectrum, covering the resonance frequencies of most rotating machinery. Shock resistance per IEC 60068-2-27 covers the mechanical events that happen when a large motor trips and the drive cabinet shudders.

Every unit we dispatch is stored in anti-static packaging with a humidity indicator card. If the card shows exceedance, the unit does not ship. Before dispatch, each board undergoes a visual inspection covering PCB surface condition, connector pin integrity, and solder joint quality at the high-stress backplane connector area — the two failure modes most commonly introduced by poor storage and handling at less disciplined suppliers.
