330101-00-15-20-02-00: Every Hour of Downtime Costs You — We Ship Today
Your turbine tripped at 03:00. The DCS is screaming Probe Fault on channel 4. Maintenance pulled the probe and confirmed the tip is cracked — classic impact damage from a rotor rub event. You need a Bently Nevada 330101-00-15-20-02-00 on-site before the morning shift handover, or the unit stays locked out. We’ve been in that control room with you. This is exactly why we stock this probe and ship same-day from Xiamen.
The 330101-00-15-20-02-00 is an 8 mm eddy-current proximity probe from Bently Nevada’s 3300 XL Series — the global benchmark for non-contact shaft vibration and axial position measurement in rotating machinery. It pairs with the 330180 proximitor and 330130 extension cable to form a calibrated system that meets API 670 machinery protection requirements. Every unit we ship is 100% original, serialized, and inspected before it leaves our warehouse.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Before you pull the probe, confirm the fault is actually the probe and not the extension cable or proximitor. Here’s the field triage sequence that saves you from swapping the wrong component:
Step 1 — Identify the fault code. On a Bently Nevada 3500 rack, a Not OK (NOK) LED on the monitor card combined with a gap voltage outside the −10 V to −18 V window almost always points to the probe or extension cable, not the proximitor. If gap voltage reads −24 V (rail), the probe tip is open-circuit — cracked tip or severed cable. If it reads 0 V, check the proximitor power supply first.
Step 2 — Isolate the probe. Disconnect the extension cable at the proximitor junction box. Measure resistance across the probe’s coil pins: nominal is 7–9 Ω for an 8 mm 3300 XL probe. Out of range? The probe is confirmed dead. Within range? Swap the extension cable before condemning the probe.
Step 3 — Verify total system cable length. The 330101-00-15-20-02-00 has a 5 m integral cable. Your total system (probe + extension) must equal 5 m, 9 m, or 15 m to match the proximitor’s calibration curve. Installing a 5 m probe with a 9 m extension on a system calibrated for 5 m total will shift your gap voltage by ~1.5 V — enough to trigger a false alarm or mask a real vibration event.
Step 4 — Set the gap correctly on reinstallation. Target gap for an 8 mm probe on a standard steel shaft is 1.0–1.5 mm (40–60 mil), corresponding to a proximitor output of approximately −10 V to −12 V. Use a feeler gauge and a calibrated DC voltmeter — do not rely on the DCS display alone during initial setup. Lock the probe body with the jam nut only after gap is confirmed; over-torquing the jam nut on a probe that’s already at gap will shift the tip position by 0.1–0.2 mm.
Step 5 — Restore and verify. After reinstallation, observe the gap voltage for 5 minutes at operating temperature before releasing the machine. Thermal expansion of the shaft and bearing housing will shift the gap by 0.05–0.15 mm on a warm restart — this is normal. If the gap drifts beyond 0.3 mm from cold-set, recheck the probe mounting bracket for thermal distortion.
Common fault codes on 3500 monitors:
- Danger – High Vibration: First check for a loose probe jam nut causing probe body movement. A vibrating probe reads its own motion, not the shaft.
- Not OK / Probe Fault: Gap voltage out of range. Follow Steps 1–3 above.
- Alert – Axial Position: On thrust bearing probes, verify the probe is not contaminated with oil sludge on the tip — this shifts the effective gap by up to 0.5 mm and triggers false axial alerts.
- Intermittent NOK: Almost always a cracked solder joint at the probe-to-cable junction, especially on probes exposed to high-cycle vibration. Flex the cable near the probe body while monitoring gap voltage — if it flickers, replace the probe.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The 3300 XL 8mm probe is not a lab instrument — it was designed to survive the environments that destroy lesser sensors. The probe body is machined from 316 stainless steel with a hermetically sealed coil assembly. The integral cable uses a fluoropolymer jacket rated to 177 °C continuous, resistant to the hydrocarbon condensate, steam, and H₂S atmospheres common in refinery and gas processing applications.
Vibration endurance: the probe assembly is qualified to 20 g RMS broadband vibration per API 670 Annex D. In practice, we’ve seen these probes outlast the bearing housings they’re mounted in on reciprocating compressors — environments where 15 g at 25 Hz is a normal operating condition, not an upset.
Moisture ingress is the most common field failure mode for proximity probes in general — not for this one. The MIL-C-5015 connector on the -02-00 variant provides IP67 sealing when mated with the 330130 extension cable connector. The probe tip itself is potted with a high-dielectric epoxy compound that prevents moisture from wicking into the coil even after years of condensation cycling.
For installations in ATEX Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous areas, confirm the zone rating on your specific unit’s label against your area classification. The 3300 XL system is certified for use with Bently Nevada’s intrinsically safe proximitors — do not mix with non-IS signal conditioners in classified areas.
