Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Ten years of field calls teach you that most 330101-series failures fall into three buckets. Know which one you’re dealing with before you pull the probe.

1. Gap Voltage Out of Range (most common)
The 3300 XL system expects a static gap voltage between −10 VDC and −12 VDC at the nominal 1.0 mm air gap. If your Proximitor® is reading outside −7 V to −15 V, the probe tip is either damaged, the target material has changed, or the probe is simply worn out. Before condemning the probe, check the extension cable connector at the Proximitor® input — a corroded BNC or loose set-screw is responsible for roughly 30% of “probe failures” that aren’t actually probe failures.

2. Intermittent OK/Not OK on the 3500 Monitor
This almost always traces to the armored cable jacket. In high-vibration installations — especially on compressor bearing housings — the cable fatigues at the conduit entry point. Flex the cable near the probe body while watching the gap voltage on a DMM. If the reading jumps, the internal conductor is cracked. 3. Replacement Configuration Checklist
