Product Overview

330104-00-05-05-01-05 In Stock — Every Hour of Downtime Costs You More Than This Probe

Your turbine tripped. The DCS is screaming. Maintenance is standing by and the shift supervisor wants answers in ten minutes. You already know the fault — the proximity probe on bearing #2 has drifted out of linear range, or worse, gone open-circuit. The 3500 rack is throwing a Not OK on channel A and the machine is locked out. You need a Bently Nevada 330104-00-05-05-01-05 on-site, calibrated, and installed before the next shift window. We have it. It ships today.

At siemensplc.com, we maintain physical stock of the 3300 XL probe family specifically for emergency MRO scenarios. No lead-time negotiation, no factory order, no waiting three weeks for a distributor to locate stock. One call, one shipment, one less crisis.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Ten years of field work teaches you that most 330104-series failures fall into four categories. Here is how to diagnose fast and replace clean.

Fault 1 — Proximitor output stuck at -24V (probe open-circuit)
The most common failure mode. The integral cable has fractured internally — usually at the probe body entry point after years of vibration fatigue. The 3500 rack will show a Not OK with the gap voltage pegged at supply rail. Confirm with a multimeter across the coaxial center conductor and shield: you should read 8–12 Ω on a healthy probe. Anything above 50 Ω or open = replace the probe. Do not attempt to splice the armored cable — the coaxial geometry is critical to sensitivity calibration.

Fault 2 — Proximitor output stuck at 0V (probe short-circuit)
Typically caused by moisture ingress at the probe tip or connector junction. The cable armor has been compromised and condensation has bridged the coax. Resistance check will show near-zero ohms. Replace the probe and inspect the probe holder for corrosion. Seal the new installation with Bently Nevada-approved thread sealant and verify the connector is torqued to spec (do not over-torque — the metric thread is M8 and strips easily).

Fault 3 — Intermittent vibration alarm with no process change
The probe tip has accumulated conductive contamination — oil carbon deposits or metallic fines from bearing wear. Clean the tip with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab. If the alarm persists after cleaning, the probe’s ferrite core may be cracked from a mechanical impact. Replace the probe and investigate whether the shaft has been rubbing the probe holder.

Fault 4 — Gap voltage correct but sensitivity drifted
The Proximitor driver is the more likely culprit here, but before condemning it, verify the probe-to-target gap. The 8 mm probe requires a nominal gap of 1.0 mm (40 mil) for center-of-range operation. Use a feeler gauge during a slow-roll inspection. If gap is correct and sensitivity is still off, the probe’s coil has degraded — replace the probe and re-verify with the Proximitor’s built-in calibration check.

Replacement Procedure — Key Steps

  • Lock out / tag out the machine per your site LOTO procedure before any probe work.
  • Record the existing gap voltage before removal — this is your baseline for the new probe installation.
  • The 330104-00-05-05-01-05 uses a metric probe holder. Do not attempt to install in an inch-series holder — the thread pitch is different and cross-threading will damage the holder bore.
  • Route the new cable along the same path as the original. Avoid sharp bends tighter than 50 mm radius on the armored cable.
  • After installation, perform a static gap check at slow-roll before returning the machine to service. Target gap voltage: approximately -10.5 VDC at 1.0 mm gap with a standard 3300 XL Proximitor.
  • If the replacement probe is paired with a new Proximitor, perform a full system calibration per Bently Nevada procedure TDI-8436.
  • Document the installation date and gap voltage in your CMMS — this is your baseline for the next predictive maintenance interval.

Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The 3300 XL probe family was not designed for a laboratory. It was designed for the bearing pedestals of steam turbines running at 3,000 RPM in 45°C ambient, for the compressor trains of offshore platforms where salt spray and vibration are constants, and for the gearbox housings of rolling mills where shock loads are routine.

The 330104-00-05-05-01-05 carries an operating temperature range of -35°C to +177°C — wide enough to cover arctic pipeline compressor stations and the hot-end bearing housings of gas turbines simultaneously. The armored integral cable is constructed with a stainless steel braid over a PTFE-insulated coaxial core, providing resistance to hydraulic oil, lubricating oil, steam condensate, and most industrial cleaning solvents.

Vibration immunity is inherent in the non-contact measurement principle — there are no moving parts, no wear surfaces, and no mechanical coupling to the shaft. The probe body is machined from stainless steel with a threaded nose for secure installation in the probe holder, eliminating the loosening risk that plagues contact-type sensors in high-vibration environments.

Electromagnetic interference rejection is achieved through the differential measurement architecture of the 3300 XL system. The probe and Proximitor together form a tuned LC circuit operating at a fixed carrier frequency, making the system inherently immune to the 50/60 Hz electrical noise that corrupts accelerometer signals in motor control rooms and switchgear areas.

Every unit we ship has been stored in climate-controlled conditions, inspected for physical integrity, and verified against the original Bently Nevada part number labeling. We do not ship units with damaged cable armor, corroded connectors, or missing documentation.
