Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips

Ten years of field work teaches you that most 330104-series failures fall into four categories. Know them before you pull the probe.

1. Proximitor® Output Drift / Flat-Line Reading
If your 3500 rack is showing a static DC voltage that doesn’t respond to shaft movement, the Proximitor® oscillator circuit has likely failed — not the probe. Before condemning the full system, disconnect the extension cable at the Proximitor® and measure the oscillator frequency with a frequency counter at the coax center pin. Nominal is 1.0 MHz ±10%. No signal = Proximitor® failure. Correct signal = suspect the extension cable or probe tip damage.

2. High Vibration Alarm with No Process Change
Check the probe gap first. The 330104 8mm probe has a nominal installation gap of 50 mil (1.27 mm) from the shaft surface, corresponding to a Proximitor® output of approximately –10 VDC. If the gap has shifted due to bearing wear or thermal growth, recalibrate the gap before replacing the transducer. 4. System Swap — Configuration Checklist
When installing a replacement 330104-00-14-10-01-CN into an existing 3500 or 3300 rack:
