PR9268/301-000 Down? Every Minute of Shaft Vibration Unmonitored Is a Liability — Ship Today from Xiamen
Your turbine or compressor is running blind without a functioning proximity probe. The EPRO PR9268/301-000 eddy current sensor is a matched-system component — when it fails, your entire API 670 vibration monitoring loop goes dark. We stock this unit in Xiamen and can have it on a DHL Express flight within hours of order confirmation. No waiting on Emerson lead times. No distributor runaround.

Troubleshooting & Replacement Tips
Ten years of field work tells you the same story every time: most PR9268 failures are not the probe itself — they’re the extension cable connector corroding at the junction box, or a driver that’s been running at the edge of its supply voltage for two years. Before you condemn the sensor, do this first:
Step 1 — Gap voltage check. With the machine at rest, measure DC voltage at the driver output. For a healthy PR9268/301-000 system, you should read approximately −10 to −12 VDC at the nominal 1.0 mm gap. If you’re reading −24 VDC (rail voltage), the probe is open-circuit — cable break or connector failure. If you’re reading 0 VDC, the driver has lost its oscillator supply.
Step 2 — Isolate the cable. Disconnect the extension cable at both ends and measure continuity on the center conductor and shield separately. The /301 suffix means a 3-metre matched extension. Substituting a different length — even temporarily — will shift your sensitivity curve and trigger false high-vibration trips. Do not do it.
Step 3 — Driver substitution test. Swap in a known-good PR9376 or PR6423 driver before ordering a new probe. A failed driver mimics a failed sensor in every symptom. This saves you a week of lead time.
Step 4 — Target surface inspection. Eddy current probes are sensitive to shaft surface condition. Rust pitting, machining marks, or a keyway in the measurement zone will produce 1× runout that looks like real vibration. Check the gap area with a flashlight before pulling the probe.
Step 5 — Replacement installation. When fitting the new PR9268/301-000: (a) Set the gap to 1.0 mm using a non-ferrous feeler gauge. (b) Torque the locknut to 15 N·m — no more, the housing is aluminium. (c) Verify gap voltage at the driver output before reconnecting to the monitoring system. (d) Perform a slow-roll check at <200 RPM to confirm 1× runout is within API 670 acceptance criteria before bringing the machine to speed.
Common fault codes on Emerson MMS 6000 / MMS 3000:
- AL01 / Probe Fault: Gap voltage out of range — check cable continuity and driver supply first.
- AL03 / High Vibration: Confirm it’s not a gap error or shaft surface defect before condemning the bearing.
- AL07 / Not OK: Driver oscillator failure — replace driver, not probe.
- Bently Nevada 3500 / 3300 XL cross-use: Do not substitute PR9268 into a Bently Nevada system without re-scaling the monitor card. Sensitivity factors differ and the system will trip at incorrect thresholds.
Reliability in Harsh Conditions
The PR9268/301-000 was engineered for the environments that destroy lesser sensors. The M14 × 1.5 stainless housing is rated IP67 — it survives direct oil mist impingement and wash-down cycles without seal degradation. The operating range of −40°C to +120°C covers everything from an Arctic compressor station in winter startup to a gas turbine bearing housing running at continuous high load.
Vibration immunity is not a marketing claim here. The sensor body is designed to withstand 50 g shock and 10 g continuous vibration per IEC 60068-2 — the same standard used to qualify avionics. In practice, we’ve seen these units survive bearing failures that destroyed the machine around them, recovered from the wreckage still within calibration.
The IP67 rating means the connector junction is the weak point in any installation, not the sensor body. Use proper cable glands, apply dielectric grease to the connector threads, and inspect the junction box annually. That’s the maintenance protocol that keeps these sensors running for 15+ years in petrochemical service.
For ATEX Zone 1 or Zone 2 installations, verify the specific ATEX certificate number on the sensor label matches your area classification documentation. Do not assume all PR9268 variants carry the same zone rating — suffix variants differ.
